We did the walking tour of Mount Pleasant with James on a beautiful but cold Saturday morning. The route was easily walkable and although a large group (22) the neighbourhood was reasonably quiet and we were all able to hear the presentation. James also has...More

How did I not know this was available in Vancouver! I was out for a 'walk about' in Strathcona with my boyfriend exploring one Sunday and came across this ad for a walking tour. I was intrigued so I called a few friends and we...More

Even though James no longer lives in Strachcona, he is as much a part of the neighbourhood as any of the old houses or buildings - and boy does he know about them. James is am amazing storyteller, has a deep knowledge of the history,...More

The short version: If you want a unique, fascinating way to spend a weekend morning, book a tour with James Johnstone. This is, hands-down, one of the best tours we've ever taken. The longer version: Our group of adults and pre-teens booked a private walking...More

We went on the East Vancouver walking tour with James. The Weather was aweful (cold February rain), and there were only two of us, but he happily gave us the tour anyways! He was very knowledgeable about the area, and he was well spoken. He...More

I highly recommend James Johnstone's walking tour of Vancouver's East End/Strathcona neighbourhood to both visitors and long-time residents. James was a great tour guide: friendly, knowledgeable, and an excellent storyteller. Despite really unpleasant weather (cold and rainy), I enjoyed myself enormously and learned a great...More

The history and the stories that James relates are fascinating, fun and sometimes spooky. He had photos of former residents so we could put faces and stories to the homes we viewed. I love local history and it was a thrill to learn about Strathcona...More

Thank you so much. I love my old neighbourhood and I love when visitors who come on my walks to our very giving historic neighbourhood "get" it. Alla prossima!

I grew up in Vancouver and enjoy learning about it's history. Joining the Strathcona walk was more than just a history lesson. James shared stories from those who live/lived in the houses of the neighbourhood & their families, which were unique and fascinating. His knowledge...More

Thank you, Kati. It was so great to have you along to see the neighbourhood and its old houses with a different type of sight. It feels like the spirits of our East End Vancouver old timers look after the neighbourhood and even set the...More

This was a fabulous historical tour of Vancouver's West End looking at all of the old houses and interesting history. I have lived in Vancouver for about 45 years, and had no idea of the history, nor did I realize that there were so many...More

I've done a few walking tours around Vancouver recently, but I found James' Strathcona tour to be the most interesting. Not only is his knowledge of the area's history impressive, he conveys a genuine affection for the area and backs it up with interesting stories....More

Hello. Sorry to see this so late. The answer is no as I was not in Canada at the time. I live in Italy most of the year and only got into Vancouver on the 15th of February.
