- Dimitris LSydney, Australia50,924 contributionsWonderful experienceGranville Island Public Market is quite an exciting place to visit if you love food! There are countless stalls selling all types of food, from fish and meat to vegetables and lovely fruit, like berries and other exotic delights! There are many other shops as well selling all kinds of merchandise. Perfect place to have lunch! We caught the Aquabus from downtown and it only took a few dollars and a few minutes to get to Granville Island. Wonderful experience.Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 16, 2023
- Stephen & SueCanberra, Australia2,652 contributionsVancouver’s Best AttractionIf you only have time to visit one place in Vancouver make it Granville Island. We took the ferry here from Yale Town and it was just the perfect day. Great food, great crafts, and a lovely setting. Try everything, then, if the weather suits, step outside on the terrace to eat your bounty and admire the views. But leave time - it was only as we left we realised there was so much more to this place than the food halls – there are so many other buildings with arts and crafts scattered around here, and we wished we’d spent the whole day here.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 13, 2024
- Jen WFenton, Michigan345 contributionsTwo hours is plenty of timeA must do while in Vancouver. It was easy to get the the island by Aquabus from Hornsby Street. We walked through the market first to get some soft drinks to carry with us, and see what was available. It was very busy at lunch time. Since it was a national holiday there were lots of local families. After walking around and visiting a few galleries we got some pastries at the market and ate outside. A quick water taxi ride back and we were on our way.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 20, 2024
- akat411San Francisco, California254 contributionsPerfect Place to Eat LunchThis was a great place to eat lunch during our Vancouver visit. There were so many options of food. The place was full of people but not as extremely crowded as other similar markets I've been to. And most importantly, it actually had some places to sit and eat (though you'd have to wait for a party to get up and leave). My family did a loop around, and then split up to go purchase our choices. There are also shops (many souvenir shops) around the market as well. We had to do a lap or two to find parking (paid parking in a garage) but again, it wasn't too bad. Clean restrooms located in a few of the different buildings. Go check it out if you're in the area!Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 8, 2024
- tar419Eastchester, New York193 contributionsSome thing for everyoneSuch a cool place. Highly recommend that you stop over when visiting Vancouver. the market has everything you can think of. If you are with a lot of people that have a lot of different tastes, this might be a great place to eat, since there is so much variety.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 24, 2024
- Travel25346533585891 contributionsVery nice Market with Plenty of SelectionsGranville Island Public Market is a Dynamic Mix of many choices. The day we visited, there were 3 seperate live bands. We also enjoy a meal on a Patio, which everyone enjoyed. It is not Fishermans Wharf in San Francisco but quite respectable for a Small City Market.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 2, 2024
- Lydia CopelandTampa, Florida140 contributionsBeautiful market of local foods and productsI could live in this market, it’s an amazing array of local foods and products! There are food options for everyone, so it’s definitely worth a visit! Keep an eye out for seating as it’s difficult to get a seat on the weekend and there will be people watching for you to leave your table on the busy days.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten April 14, 2024
- Rachel & Andy393 contributionsEverything you could possibly need in one place.Visited: 05/06/2023. An amazing (and huge) market filled all kinds of food, and merchandise. The market stall holders are all really friendly and happy to talk to you about their products, the entire market was busy and had street performers dotted around as well. There is plenty to choose from, and lots of variety so you can pretty much find anything you want and need from this market. Really enjoyed our visit. We had lunch from Gormet Wok (beef in black bean sauce with rice, and a vegetarian noodle dish), both delicious. We also treated ourselves to dessert from Stuart's The Bakers (strawberry cheesecake and chocolate turtle). Would love to live locally to shop from here on the regular.Visited June 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024
- SarahH70Manchester, United Kingdom252 contributionsGreat place, well worth a visitGranville Island on the whole is well worth a visit, however its gem has to be the market. The stalls are vibrant and full of fresh produce and the food stalls are a great place to dine and drink - there are so many its hard to chose one. We settled on A La Mode and its amazing pies. Various seating areas, some inside and some outside with waterfront views. Great value for money and would definately visit again if we ever come back to Vancouver.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 3, 2024
- Vickey E44 contributionsFood heavenAn amazing place with a fabulous assortment of craft items and great quality foods to buy or eat onsite although the seagulls outside are a bit savage so better to sit inside. Highly recommended to pay a visit. All local businesses too.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 3, 2024

Loved it. Everything in this market is locally grown, produced, nothing imported. The brewery is fantastic and brews, what I think is the best dark ale in the world. Lions Winter Ale. The next time I’m in YVR I’ll be dropping in again.

I don't go to Vancouver often, so Granville Island is always a treat. Come hungry to try bites at all the stalls (and early to get parking!). We ate a fresh warm donut, bought different kinds of salmon nuggets, admired the houseboats, browsed through the awesome catalogue of classes and all the beautiful textiles and fibers at Maiwa, and swooned after the tiny, cute, colorful ferry boats. There's always interesting crafts and artwork both in and around the market. Can't wait to come back!

Our friends who had visited this place highly recommended it but warned us about parking both on the island and near ferry stations, especially given this being a Canadian long weekend holiday. We walked about two miles from our hotel to the Aquatic Museum ferry stop. For me the ferry ride there after a short wait was the highlight of this visit. The Public Market was jam packed with tourists. The cavernous interior features a great variety of eateries, souvenir shops, bakeries, juice bars, butcher shops, etc.,very similar to many large food hall and farmer markets we had seen elsewhere in California, New York, Montreal, and Europe.

I don’t understand why this market and its environs are so appealing. We visited it a weekday in July, and found it excessively crowded. Seats were scarce, and the crowds were pushy. Sure, the market has some nice stands; but most likely those products could be found elsewhere in the City. The shops outside of the market ranged from being tasteful, but overpriced to tacky souvenir places.

Loved going through the market - so much to see, smell and experience. So many colourful displays. Food items are on the pricey side but you can pretty much find anything that you would like to eat here.

What an amazing place. My friend
Am I spent almost 6 hours wandering the markets - an eclectic mix of shops and fresh produce. Parking was cheap and plentiful as were prices. Obviously some of the higher end artisan stuff was a bit more expensive, but pieces are one offs and workmanship stunning. Thoroughly recommend it as a “must visit” when in Vancouver

We love public markets (e.g.. Seattle's Pike Street), and the Granville Public Market may be the best we've been to in the US or Canada. Fascinating and varied food offerings. Good artists. A visual feast. And, if we'd come for a meal, a real feast too. Just about every kind of food you can think of is there, fresh and beautifully displayed.
A couple of pointers. First, the place is crowded. You need to be patient. Second, some vendors take only cash, which might not be a problem, but the two AMTs in the market were both out of order. Third, the place closes at 6 p.m., which is later than many of the eateries in the area.

The island (really a peninsula?) is packed with shops that cater to tourists. Lots of restaurants and stores selling art and souvenirs. The indoor public market was the most interesting to us, as you could buy a wide variety of foods from booth and also fresh produce. There are also docks full of small boats. Besides that, there are no special views. Go if you have extra time or like wandering among shops and restaurants.

Best public market I’ve visited. Originally thought this was going to be a tourist trap but it’s phenomenal. The food options are extensive - and in my opinion, mostly high quality. You can find everything from baked goods to curries to deli food to pretty much anything else. Feel like a coffee or a fresh juice? They’ve got that too! There’s also vendors selling things like seasonings/salts, chocolates, souvenirs, etc. Most days, there are buskers outside, so you can sit down with your food, enjoy the view and some local talent as well. Easy to access via ferry or walking, you can drive but parking appears to be limited.

Every time I am in Vancouver I visit. The market is beautiful and full of fresh and delicious food. There’s also live music and tons of shops from souvenir, to clothing, to art. The atmosphere is great with the colourful buildings on the seaside. Highly recommend!

There are entrances with no stairs and once inside it’s all on the same level except for some of the dining seating so you should be fine to use a walker. But it does get very crowded and the walkways can be narrow.

I have just 1/2 day in Vancouver and really enjoy affordable handmade arts and crafts.
Is this market good for that purpose? I probably won’t be eating anything, unfortunately.
Thanks!

Hola, cómo se llega a Granville Island? y que precio aprox es el transporte de ida y vuelta saliendo de Vancouver?.
Gracias!

Sorry, yo no habla espanol, yo respondo en ingles😊
It is very easy to go from downtown by bus or skytrain then a short walk to a watertaxi just opposite Granville Island. Skytrain is 2,80 and the watertaxi 3$, so no problem! Enjoy your time there😊

Where can someone with celiac disease eat at granville market?

Sorry do not know of an exact place for gluten free. There are numerous dining places on the island as well as food shops in the Public Markets. You would have to check with those places if they have gluten free food available. Go to their website for more information.

Are there vendors at the Public Market that sell prepared foods such as sandwiches, suitable for a picnic lunch or dinner? We are visiting the market in June in the morning, and attending Bard on the Beach in the evening and would like to take a picnic with us. Thank you for your input.

I am sorry I just noticed your question.
There are foods you can buy and and eat near by or buy to go.
especially if you are the adventurous kind then you will enjoy trying different dishes.
Have a great time!

We will be renting a vehicle at YVR then driving up to Whistler. I'd love to stop at the Public Market on our way but I'm wondering if we will have problems parking. Any thoughts/recommendations?
Written February 22, 2017
They have paid parking as well. Shouldn't have a problem.
