The mechanical bull riding and line dancing make this an energetic establishment for a night out, and I will return for the pure entertainment value. Participating is always the better option, but people watching at this saloon is just as fun. The decor in the restaurant and bar itself is enticing. The country bar atmosphere reminded me of beer halls... More

This was close to our hotel so we wandered over Saturday night for supper. We learned from the super friendly staff that The Yale is now The Yale Saloon and has re-vamped themselves. They are now a Country Blues venue offering a smoked BBQ menu. Live Blues music is on Tuesday evenings only. Disappointed, we decided to stay to eat.... More

It was a riot, and a great place for live Blues, but, it is now gone with no replacement. We have been trying to follow the characters involved, but, nothing, so far.

Okay, okay, along with BB King's in Memphis, Arthur's Tavern in New York and Sammy Dow's in Glasgow, Scotland - this is the best - and I mean, quite simply, the best - blues joint in the world. Just get there. Huge, long bar, spacious stage, fabulous acoustics, authentic art deco atmosphere, and great staff. The people who hire the... More

I met my backpacking Aussie husband on the dance floor of the Yale Hotel on July 15, 1988. 25 years later we are still going strong. So many fond memories of the music and fun had back then. I had hoped to have a beer there to celebrate the quarter century, but alas I can only do a drive by... More

The Yale is unique in many ways, for starters, the staff are honest and there to please. At this spot, you are safe, the VPD frequently swing by in numbers just to maintain a presence...as they do at any bar watch establishment. The music is second to none, and the night is always a great experience. The Yale brings all... More

Great atmosphere and great music. On Saturday there were 2 bands playing in turns on 2 different stages. Pool is free.

I really miss the Yale. I saw Canada win Hockey gold for us here during the Olympics, what a blast! The place will smell great in the future, no more beer floors, or is it floors with beer? I lived above it for almost ten years. It has a friendly vibe, what can I say, & a sense of community... More

My friend and I visited the Yale on Friday night June 18, 2010. I had not been there for many years and, in fact, haven't been out to a nightclub in a long time. The Yale is on Granville Street: an area that has steadily improved over the last few years - especially as a destination for pubs and nightclubs.... More

The Yale is a bar located at the edge of downtown Vancouver, in a century-old building that housed railway workers in its first incarnation. Some of that working-class grit permeates the walls and adds to the blues feeling here. I've been going here for decades; Long John Baldry, Jim Byrnes, David Gogo put on rockin' shows here. And, you never... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
