The area
Address
Neighborhood: Granville Street
Granville Street spans many, multiple city blocks and has become so fastidiously known for its nightclubs and watering holes that it's fondly nicknamed the city's 'Entertainment District.' Friday and Saturday nights are the most popular and lively, with young revelers taking to the streets in droves and keeping the party going until late. Granville Street, being mostly open to pedestrian-only traffic, has a healthy social life along its main thoroughfares, even outside of its cafes and pubs, spilling onto the sidewalks. The locals are chatty, the shops at its expansive Pacific Centre Mall are trendy, and the whole area seems to be on a sugar rush: in a good way. Exuberance and camaraderie classify this neighbourhood.

I am a former member of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada and have lived in the north-central part of the province for many years.
When visiting Vancouver I occasionally drop into the cathedral to pay my respects. It is truly an oasis of quiet, peaceful sublimity within the noisy heart of the city where reflection on one's being seems a natural reaction. Well worth a visit.

Great to see the Cathedral has reopened after the Covid thing. I find this a wonderful place to just sit, meditate, and catchup after a busy day downtown. Indeed, it is almost easy to forget about the interesting architectural characteristics of this 19th century edifice - stained glass windows, vaulted ceilings, and more. Looks small on the outside, but feels enormous on the inside.

Lovely old cathedral is worth a visit for its architecture and stained glass. But we went for the brief 9:30 evening Compline service with Gregorian chant and it was sublime.

My friend and I enjoyed touring this cathedral. The interior is beautiful. Make sure you leave a donation. The church provides meals several days a week for the homeless. We found the workers to be very friendly and helpful with a great sense of service for the community.

We try to visit the local cathedral in every city we visit and this one is an oasis of calm right in the city centre. It is now dwarfed by the surrounding buildings but the interior is beautiful and the welcome great. The music at the Sunday service was of high quality.

Many of my fellow TripAdvisor reviewers have commented on the architecture, design, and stained glass windows. They are all correct - this building, built 1889 (!) is a marvel. But, this is also a place to stop and catch one's breath, to meditate if you will, while you are in the middle of a busy day. Wish I'd known about this place when I worked downtown - half an hour meditating here would no doubt have been healthier than a hi-cal lunch eaten on the fly. So, having a tough day? Need a break? Go here.
Would have given this a FIVE, except for two people talking loudly about church business (I think from downstairs) interrupted what would have otherwise been complete silence.

We loved the tour of the church so much history and what a beautiful calming church with lots of glass in the heart of a very busy city. Come and enjoy some quiet time in the church!

This is a beautiful Anglican church and it is worth visiting. Other than the gentleman who was at a reception desk when we entered and who provided information about the church, and two other visitors, we were the only people in the cathedral. The church has a beautiful wood ceiling and a number of stained glass windows. Photographs are permitted. There is no admission fee, but the gentleman who greeted us when we entered indicated that a free will offering would be gladly accepted, as it was going to take more than $4 million to replace the roof. We contributed to the cause.

Make sure to check and see if there is a musical event on in the evening or afternoon before you go! Vespers (evening prayers) and Compline (night prayers, around 9pm) are both beautiful services to attend. It is very quiet and peaceful. There are also other non-religious musical events here as well. And the architecture of the church is just beautiful, dark, gothic wood.
