Wish we could have seen the fireworks show that is done 3x per summer. But the crowds kind of deterred us and we were staying on the other side of town. Love walking along the Seawall looking out at the bay, the boats, the beaches and more. Don't miss it.

If you have been to other urban beaches in say Barcelona, Bueno Aires, Rio or even Cali you may think you know what to expect here. At English Bay are: Drinks allowed (nope), bikini tops off (no way), fun, lively beach bars (nada), beach chair rentals (no), fun scene after the sun goes done (forget about it). Keeping with Vancouver's... More

Busy beach at the end of Davie and Denman. The sunsets are stunning. Lots of people hanging out here daily. You can bike, walk, paddle board, kayak etc. Great way to end a long day of walking around the city

Very Very nice view. I love it! Also great to just sit down and enjoy the calm ocean breeze and read a book! You'll see many suntanning or doing the same!

It was great spending time around English Bay. They were getting ready for the big fireworks while we visited there (late July) so some of the beautiful gardens were screened off to avoid trampling. But the beach, sunsets and restaurants are all great! Highly recommend a visit!

We spent the entire day at English Bay. We scoured the sand for little clam shells, we walked along the the pathways for pedestrians and bikes. Rested on numerous benches looking out onto the beautiful Bay. There were many people having picnics on the grass and lots of folks enjoying the expansive sandy beach. Swimmers and standup paddle boarders were... More

One of the spiritual homes of the City - whether your taste is for the mountain (hello Grouse and Cypress, I'm thinking of you) or the Bay, they all come together to meet on the beaches of English Bay. Stunning, and free.

English Bay is one of Vancouver's delightful "neighborhoods" adjacent to Stanley Park and the ocean. It even has lawn bowling.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
