If enjoy people watching, are looking for a convenient sandy beach while visiting the city or just want to go for a swim then this is the place for you! For those with a bit more energy there is a slide that is accessible to the public not far from shore. Lots of activity in the area. Spectacular sunset views.... More

English Bay is easily accessed from West End and is a pleasant area. It extends for a long way hugging the shore from Granville Island to Stanley Park. A good path goes round so walking can be very leisurely. There are plenty of benches to relax or rest awhile. As you approach Stanley park it becomes more wooded and there... More

You can stroll along English Bay from Stanley Park to the Granville Island Ferry and beyond. A nice walking/biking path goes all the way around False Creek. It's beautiful any time of the year.

Even though we were here during the quiet period just after Christmas it is such a nice area we have decide to revisit in the summer. Lovely beach and great shopping along with lots of great places to eat and drink

A nice place to spend the day. It's a nice beach with very pretty views but the sand is coarse. The area has lots of good restaurants like the Cactus cafe. Denman street is nice to walk around. Lot's of local shops, cafes, dessert places. In July, there is annual international fireworks competition right at the beach which is fantastic.

English Bay is an amazing beach right on the edge of the city. It is one of the things that makes us so lucky to live in Vancouver. The water is too cold for most people to swim, but a few hearty souls do. Walk or bike along the beach, try the fish and chips from the parks board stand,... More

A great place to walk, relax, people watch, take photos, bike etc. I never tire of visiting this area whenever I'm in Vancouver. It is so convenient to get to. So peaceful to look out over the water and watch the ducks, seagulls, various boats, and barges. Love it!

Visited English bay in July 2015. We took the bus here from burrard and then back. Enjoyed the beautiful sunny weather while walking on the beach and then along the sea wall. If you keep walking, you'll end up at Stanley park which we decided not to go to. I remember all the black squirrels at the park from when... More

I think this would be a great place in the summer, beautiful scenery, sand, shops and food near by, what more do you need?

Walking along the foreshore on a brisk winters morning. The kids loved running along the "beach" playing with shells and driftwood. Plenty of photo opportunities along the way. Lots of locals with their pets also enjoy the bay. We even spotted a seal.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
