Perhaps not the haven that some would have you believe but it's a nice spot to sit on a bench, relax and watch the world go by. It's well worth wandering/cycling round the sea wall either side of English Bay - more pleasant views and a cleverly segregated path to minimise the risk of cyclist/pedestrian collisions.

Walk the seawall and it will cure all that ails you! Who does not appreciate the ocean air and the view of tug boats and sailboats afar?

Is hard to describe the feeling of being on such a great place. To have a real feeling you must be there to enjoy the quite of the beach, the view of the ocean combined with Kitsilano shore line and the whole bay crowded by yachts. In the middle they have a place where you can rent canoes and take... More

Every visitor to Vancouver has to go down to English bay and sit ,have a drink and marvel at the fact you are in the middle of a big city but you could be on the French riviera..well almost! It's an amazing place and the view is second to none. Sit and eat at Cactus Club right on the beach... More

Excellent children's park at English Bay where our two grand children, aged 9 and 2 1/2 played happily for a couple of hours. Nicely laid out and very user friendly.

This is probably the best place to watch the sunset in Vancouver. The beach is very clean and there are plenty of wooden logs placed on the beach to be used as benches. Alternatively, you can sit in one of the many bars/restaurants which are by the beach to watch the sunset. Unsurprisingly, it is always busy but not packed... More

English Bay is the best. You're just a handful of steps away from great restaurants, pubs, ice cream shops and the downtown core. There's the option of lounging on the grassy hill or sunbathing on the sand. You have a gorgeous view of the bay with mountains all around. Again, the choice is yours if you want to swim. Do... Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
