We were there in the evening and didn't find it very interesting. If you want to see Chinatown go to NYC or Melbourne, Australia. They have nice stores, food, shopping. Much better and safer feeling. August 2014.

During our first evening in Vancouver, we decided to visit Gastown and move onto Chinatown in hope of a Chinese meal. OMG we were in for a bit of a shock, we were confronted with around a 50 metre stretch of sidewalk completely overrun with vagrants/ homeless/ druggies and that was just on one street. Apparently the authorities want an... More

A typical Chinatown with a beautiful gate. The area is filled with life and people. Many restaurants to try and all very traditional, but more contemporary places are popping up!

I would say that most these places have little to no interest in tourists. However, my husband and I stumbled into one that wasn't just trying to sell us something, but teach us about what they had. I was extremely impressed with these two individuals and it is just the experience we were looking for. We found the diamond in... More

Chinatown is ever changing to welcome new shops and services to the area. A great look into the history of Chinatown can be found all over the street as the city of Vancouver has placed monuments, maps and statues depicting the events and people that have influenced the town.

Having visited a fair few Chinatown's over the globe I was interested to check out Vancouver's Chinatown when in the city. Having just spent 3 days in Victoria I thoroughly enjoyed the Chinatown there and had high hopes for the one in Vancouver. In all honestly I was quite underwhelmed by it, there just didn't seem to be much there... More

Maybe its because I've seen and been to so many other Chinatowns in other cities that i'm kind of disappointed in the Chinatown of Vancouver. Nothing to see, nothing to eat and generally not a lot of life. Just some old buildings that you can probably cover by car or by walking through.

Chinatown is a different pace than other neighbourhoods in Vancouver. A little older but with plenty of character. Some good restaurants, but my favourite thing is the shops. Great place to find some cool deals. Wouldn't call it a must see neighbourhood but it is worth walking around and checking out.

The area is dirty, many homeless people and is very decadent. There are many chinese products stores but seems to be for locals, not really a touristic attraction. We went there expecting to find some good chinese restaurants but there aren't. There are two or three restaurants in the area but none of them caught our attention.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
