First night and day so far. Will fill in another review at the end of our week visit. So far..the owner and his family have been amazing in trying to insure our needs are met. The beds comfy. The rooms clean!! The waterfront deck is wonderful. The fish market a bit disappointing. Not much available and no samples to try so I didn’t purchase. Will try again in three days when more is coming in apparently but not sure if local? Will check. Noisy place during the day and night but fun to observe and ear plugs at night helped the sound of the drunks to soften after the bar closed a few down from here.

It's more of a n upscale souvenir store than an art gallery. Beautiful stuff though and first class souvenirs. We got a mini dugout canoe (for a child to play with) an abalone shell and a sasquatch puppet. The prices seemed decent. The art cards were lovely.

The HOUSE OF HIMWITSA is actually three businesses in one; a Lodge, an Art Gallery and a Fish Store, all First Nation owned and operated.
We visited the Himwitsa Native Art Gallery and LOVED IT!
Beautiful treasures for everyone, so if you want a multi-thousand $$ hand-carved mask, or a magnet for your fridge, it's all here.
We loved combing the waterfront for old glass and plan on staying in the Lodge next time. A MUST visit while in Tofino.

We can here looked around for a while was some amazing pieces in the shop. Found a few items we were going to purchase from a pair of moccasins and some jewelry. Went to till really liked the music that was playing. Asked about the music and the lady at counter stated rudely that they don't sell that one it's older she's sick of the music that was playing and can't wait for Christmas music. So we put our stuff back and left. Would not go back there.

The fish store here tucked away in the back is our favorite place to purchase smoked salmon - wish we had this back home! We always need to stock up and bring some home with us. Open daily.

A store packed with locally sourced and made products. I could have spent $000's in this store very easily. All of the art and artefacts were beautiful and very collectable.
Go there, buy your souvenirs from a genuine store, and support the First Nation artists.

We dealt with owner Richard George. Lewis is his father. My review stands. This has it all. Highly recommend staying here.

Our stay was unforgettable. Our impeccably clean, well-appointed, comfortable room had an astounding view and, if I did nothing else in Tofino, I would have been happy to take advantage of my front row seat watching the sea lions and otters glide just beyond our deck, the bald eagles swoop overhead, and the sea planes land and take off beyond the dock below. What a way to experience morning coffee or an evening glass of wine! I am an experienced traveler, and this view was one of my all-time favorites. The kitchenette meant we did not have to eat all of our meals at restaurants and enjoy the view all the better for it.

We looked at a lot of other places (this was a special trip for us)–some of which seemed a lot more flashy for one reason or another. However, we wanted to make sure our $$’s supported the local First Nation people. I am so glad we chose the House of Himwitsa as I think an airbnb with a view of the ocean is something available in many locals and can’t compare with the vibrant life we were privileged to experience from our room at this lodge.

The owner of the Himwitsa is also the hereditary chief of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth people. I was lucky enough to speak to him and was so impressed by his generous, kind spirit. It is not for me to report on our conversation’s details, but I felt so privileged to have learned something of his story and that of his people–a very, very cool guy.

If you do stay here, we also loved the trip to the hotsprings we booked from Ahous Adventures–the only First Nations/Indigenous owned and tour operation in town. We had a great experience with them: the boat driver was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond for us to catch glimpses of whales and other sea life. And, because Ahous is also owned by First Nation local people, if you go on the first tour, you will have the hot springs to yourself before the other tour groups arrive. It was a win-win-win!

This is always a stop when in Tofino. I especially love the silver bracelets and earrings. Staff was very helpful and professional.
