We had Kelly as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and told us lots of cool facts during the trip. We saw sea otters, fish breaching and bald eagles.
Kelly was very helpful and gave us great tips and techniques. We caught 4 lingcods, rockfish, vermillion and some crab to take home! He helped us gut, clean and fillet all of them! Had such a fun time, looking forward to our next trip back!

Highlight of 2 day weekend spent in Tofino! Paul is quite the energetic guide and knows all the good spots to get a great haul. Caught 3 decent size chinooks and a lot of crabs. Paul also taught us how to fillet the fish after the trip. Definitely recommend to any fishing enthusiasts!

We joined 25 other people to celebrate a good friends birthday. After 3 days we were jonezin to go fishing, however it was Labor Day weekend and it seemed we were out of luck until a network of fisherman got us in touch with the true captain of the fleet. Dave drove from Victoria (5hour drive) to take us on a day we wouldn't forget. We went with another couple who had never deep sea fished, we had in many places but this was a first for halibut and 3 different species of salmon. Dave had a small BBQ grill onboard that cooked the best Halibut I have had. I would suggest Dave or wardowest ant day of the week. Awesome ,Awesome Day.. Thank you Dave it was a memorable day.

If you want your fishing trip RUINED - go ahead and book with them....
All the good reviews that you see are likely self written. I truly wish there was a way to rate this so called guide named Dave and give him NEGATIVE 5 rating...
I usually don't have a lot of time on my hands but THIS one deserves a special review... Booked two full days to go tuna fishing family trip with my parents and son.
This "guide" delayed times 2 our departure on day 1 and saying there is no rush... When we showed up at the dock the first this that came out him mouth was that he is very tired and doesn't really feel like fishing!!!
So - there was a "good" start... Not to mentioned that he looked like he had either a sleepless night or possibly under influence! Slurred speech, scratches on the face and chugging water out his water container like a champ!!! There was Captain Morgan guiding us... Then two hours in this "GUIDE" said he is going back to the dock because "HE DOESN'T FEEL THE VIBE"
Basically this Dave was acting like bipolar manic-depressive person that in retrospect I am glad we didn't get into the open sea with. In my opinion people like him should seek medical attention with their fishing guide licences suspended so they don't pose danger to the public...
We ended up finding a fantastic guide for tuna fishing with remarkable communication and people skills the next day who made our 12 hour trip truly amazing and unforgettable. We witnessed whales jumping out of the water, tuna chasing smaller fish, sea lions and sharks - all in one day!! My son and my parents never went tuna fishing in their lives and this made a very special experience for them!!!!
So, if you are looking for a polite and safe guide for you fishing trips - spare yourself both money and time and would definitely advise you NOT to book with this self proclaimed "GUIDE".
But there is Karma and he knows it....
Cheers everyone and if you have never done tuna fishing before - do it!
You will never regret it!!
Ever!!!

I have been fortunate to fish with multiple guides in multiple regions. Dave and his team handled our 10 person outing at the highest level. Exciting fishing, superb hospitality, and an amazing attitude that embodies the Tofino region. What a trip!! .

3rd year in a row fishing with Paul and he did not disappoint - we now have a freezer full of halibut, salmon and crab. We saw Orcas and humpback whales. Great experience with Paul - highly recommend WardoWest.

It was back to the mid-July and we we were considering a two day fishing trip with wardowest. We have fished all round North America, but I would absolutely go with them next year!
This was not our first time with these folks. We went last year with paul and caught some nice cods although fishing was really rough. Paul really tried his best which they deserved a 4.9 out of 5.
Again this year, when i first called Brandon, he picked the phone up real quick and solved the fishing date problem. There were only two of us and we caught our limits on lingcod, snappers, chinook plus a real nice halibut on the first day. Paul treated us real nice and very happy to answer about areas around tofino and their fishing experiences.....
On the next day, two of our friend came and they have never gone fishing before. Again, we caught a whole bunch of snappers, salmon, and lingcod although we lost a 30 pounded giant chinook. Our friends said they had such a wonderful day and it was worth to come to Tofino.
Thanks to Dave, Brandon and Paul again to make this two day fishing trip so successful with a huge army of fish and we will come back again next year.

This is the 2nd year in a row that I've fished with WardoWest (Dave, Paul, and Kass). Last year we had 4 people (ages 14-64). We had such a great experience, we grew the party to 8 people (ages 15-65) this year. If you haven't fished with WardoWest, you haven't experienced 'blue ribbon' fishing.
Accommodations: WardoWest has a fabulous house in a quiet neighborhood about 5 minutes from the marina where they keep their boats. All of the beds are comfortable, the house is spotless (thanks Kass), cooking in their remodeled kitchen makes eating some of the days catch a truly memorable experience.
Boats and Gear: comfortable, safe, plenty of room for 3-4 people per boat. Great salmon and halibut gear. Huge variety of bait and lures to make sure we're giving the fish what they're hankering for.
Guides: Dave and Paul are some of the most respected guides in Tofino and after being out with them for a day, it is easy to see why. Their commitment is happy customers and they go above and beyond to ensure that is the outcome for all. They know the waters, they know the fish. Both Dave and Paul do an excellent job helping both experienced and inexperienced deep sea fishers to to be successful. Dave and Paul worked their butts off. They did all equipment set-up, hook baiting, gaffing/netting, handling and cleaning the catch. They have a processor who meets the boat at the dock and flash freezes the catch.
The Catch: We booked 3 days of fishing. It was perfect. Tofino is having unbelievable weather this summer. Lots of sunshine and warm temps. Unfortunately this slowed down fishing.
-Day 1: Our first day we only got 6 halibut (largest 40 lbs) and 8 salmon (Chinook/Coho-largest Chinook about 16 lbs). The slowdown wasn't Wardo's fault. (note: we did better than most of the other Tofino guides.
-Day 2: Dave and Paul announced that they had found a spot for day 2. It was a 35 mile ride, no problem in their boats. NOTE: we've never experienced fishing like this, both Chinooks and Cohos. We limited in both, often with 2 and 3 on at the same time. The Chinooks were averaging about 12-20 lbs. Great fights, even better eating. The best way to describe fishing was all of our arms and wrists ached. Sometimes we couldn't even get our bait through the swarming Cohos.
-Day 3: We split up and went to 2 different locations. Our boat went to Hot Springs Cove. Not to be missed if you haven't been. We had GREAT fishing nearby. Limited on Chinooks (10-20 lbs), 4 beautiful Cohos (7-10 lbs), 3 decent ling-cod (8-12 lbs) and a couple of red rock fish. And to top it all off, we were graced with 2 humpback whales who swam by about 150 yards from our boat. A PERFECT day 3.

I am staying in torfino 18/20th September and am wondering if it I would be able to join a fishing trip as I am on my own. Fly fishing salt or fresh would be preferable. Could you indicate if this is possible and what is the likely cost.

Sorry, really not sure as there were three in my party. I would contact WardoWest direct. Thanks
