Hidden Gem! Great skiing, Big Mountain and an old-time feel

Despite the poor snow this year, I was very impressed with the terrain at Red Mountain. Steep runs, lots of chutes and stashes, long runs and a vast mountain with a big vertical drop. All fixed grip lifts which adds to the charm and the ability to rest the legs before the next quad burner. Red is a hidden gem that I will be back to further explore!

Every serious skier should spend a winter in Red

Red grew on us. Early in the season, it seems difficult to ski in the trees, but if you stay for an entire season you learn so much about the mountain, the trees, the rocks, and you will end successfully skiing through tight trees. Highly recommend to take lessons at Fall Line, the resort´s ski school, they are excellent.

Big mountain, with plenty of great terrain for all abilities. Yes the lifts are slow, very slow so dress warm. In area cat skiing was a great adventure for only 10 bucks.

#1 Thing Wrong With Red Mountain Resort

The biggest West Coast 2-step, is selling snake oil as medicine! Land and Real Estate have become the 21st Century snake oil. Having a Resort with ZERO amenities, is akin to the charmer of the 19th Century. Hustled to buy inflated prices, unsuspecting “transplants” find themselves in a Culture/Food/Spa/ desert that has NOTHING for families and has minimal delivery to segregated AirBnB/ Second Home renters, packed together like sardines! Disney inspired Nature and a neglected ski culture lets the overcharged tourist know they have been CHEATED! Smallest ski season ...Largest lift price for the benefits!

Slalom Creek Condos @ Red Mountain Resort

We stayed here for 4 nights in July/August. It was in the middle of a heat wave 30-37 degree temps. We were a bit shocked that the unit had no A/C. Luckily, we spent most days out of the condo, and with all doors and windows open it cooled down enough at night to sleep. The slope side view would be amazing but for the parked ski resort equipment and dump trucks parked a eye level. We would also have liked a bbq but otherwise the space was comfortable and spacious.

Huge terrain options. Good snow. No lift lines. Unique on-hill cabin culture.

A big part of my rating is also due to the excellent customer service. I was particularly impressed with the central reservations team who went above and beyond. Thanks!

Magic!

This is one of my favorite ski haunts. When there's snow, and you're standing at the top of Paradise, looking down on the clouds and adjacent mountaintops, there is no better place to ski. The hill is relaxed, staff are friendly, and there is a nice mix of easy, intermediate and challenging runs: something for everyone! The little lodge at the top of the Paradise lift is charming, albeit a little small for the hordes of people trying to find a table for lunch. Planning to eat before 11 or after 1 is a better bet. The food's not bad, and reasonably priced. There's also a microwave available if you want to BYO.
Unfortunately, they don't make snow, and so they were already in Spring skiing mode when we visited in mid-February. Lower elevation runs were a mess, but there was still a lot of great terrain at the top. Regardless, we had a great day of skiing, and can't wait for our next ski trip to Red Mountain.

Some good, some bad.....

Stayed at the Slalom condos in midsummer, which is low season for this ski resort. Accommodation was clean and reasonably priced, but could not comfortably sleep the advertised number of occupants and there was no window in one bedroom, which I believe may be in contravention of the B.C. building code. There was no air conditioning. The dishwasher leaked. The entire balcony was taken up with the hot tub, the cover of which had seen better days. One day before our departure, the elevator was taken out of service. These problems were reported to management but the only problems that were addressed were replenishment of towels and toilet paper.

Good terrain old lifts

Great place when the snow is deep but not much fun otherwise. Not many of the runs seemed to be groomed overnight leading to most of the steep stuff being v bumpy and not much fun in flat light.

The lifts are in serious need of an upgrade, all are old and slow but on the other hand the slopes are deserted so I can't complain too much! :)

We only had one clear day, on the cloudy flat light days we didn't really enjoy the pistes due to the above point and found most of the trees to be too tight to stay in for any period of time.

This place would be awesome after fresh snow. It's very steep in places and would lend its self to great off piste powder skiing/boarding. I think the lack of pisting means any fresh snow is easily washed/blown off the slopes. We had fresh snow most days but there was little evidence of it a day later which was strange as the slopes were deserted?

There is no discernible Apres Ski at red mountain and Rossland doesn't offer much more so don't by expect to come here to party.
