Stopped in at Hillside with a group of four other family members for a quick tasting since they advertise walk-ins being welcome. There were three tables occupied with no more than 10 total patrons. They had at least three staff working. We were turned away because they were “too full” and the lady dealing with us even had the audacity to ask us if we wanted to come back in 45 minutes. Let me be clear, it did not at all resemble busy. My wife and I have spent thousands of dollars wine touring the Okanagan for the last week. Apparently Hillside wasn’t interested in our business. I’ll never go back. Absolute embarrassment of a customer service experience.

The experience was not what I was expecting, but my expectations were exceeded. I was quite impressed with Greg's descriptions of the wines in our tasting flight and telling us where the grapes were grown for the wine, all on the estate. My companion and I decided to join their Hillside wine club, and we had a great overall experience. This was my second visit to Hillside (my first in 21 years), and they changed a few things over that time, but I think the experience was better overall.

I did not go there- I simply bought their Muscat wine, which is excellent and a bargain. Muscat was their first planting, 1984, and is bright, floral and refreshing. Only slightly off-dry.

For a real different treat, try this wine.

We had a reservation for the upstairs patio at Hillside which I was really looking forward to. The hostess was very friendly and we got seated soon after we arrived. The view was beautiful and we were very happy with our food, and of course our wine. I wished I was hungry enough to do the tasting menu but I thoroughly enjoyed the carpaccio and gnocchi. The pecan cheesecake was also awesome. What I would return for here, was the service. Wow, Hillside you’ve got an amazing team working there! Jessie our server was exceptional. I eat in a lot if nice places and haven’t had a genuinely nice server in years. She was so lovely and went above and beyond when we asked for a photo at the table. When our bill came another server (didn’t catch her name but she told us her 18th birthday is two weeks away) was also a joy. Maybe everyone in Penticton is this nice, but I was very impressed! Thanks for a wonderful night.!!

Went for a tasting and there was a blatant disregard for proper service. The women running the tasting bar seemed more interested in entertaining their friends then serving paying customers. We waited up to 10 minutes to be acknowledged between samples, I was highly disappointed. Good wines, terrible staff.

As one of the 6 wineries we stopped into on a day trip into the Naramata region, it just also happened to be lunch time when we got to Hillside Estate Winery. After our tasting (informative staff) where I enjoyed the Reserve 2007 Pinot Gris so much that I bought some, we wandered over to the restaurant. There are different levels to the restaurant. One is inside and in the lower portion....full of art that I fell in love with. The other is outdoors on the upper deck where you get some very lovely views of the lake and surrounding area. This is where we saw a hawk being attacked by a songbird....it was amazing to watch and lasted quite awhile. I ordered a pasta dish and David ordered a wrap with some kind with salad....although I enjoyed my pasta, I was wishing I had ordered the wrap instead as it was delicious!! Maybe next time...

Their bistro is a lovely place to have lunch or dinner as the food is excellent, and the view from the upper patio is beautiful. Make sure to make reservations as this place gets busy any day of the week. The customer service was great during our tasting and we got a lot of information on the wines. The syrah, pinot gris, and rose are absolutely delicious!

This was a very mediocre dining experience. Slow albeit enthusiastic service. Calamari that was unrecognizable as an edible food. Decent salads. Risotto without flavor or texture, despite claims of chorizo and prawns. Flatiron steak which was bland and poorly cooked. Frankly the experience left us wanting.

Having been in the area for a couple days we did a couple wineries as one should. Hillside was by far my favourite tasting for a couple reasons. The first is the wine! It was fantastic and very tasty (I may or may not be sipping the Gewürztraminer as I type). The second was the lady that did the tasting with us. She was very easy to talk to, very knowledgeable about the wines and was the only person that swished the glass before we tasted. Sounds like a small detail but it made all the difference for me. Will definitely be going back!
