We spent much time visiting the Harbourfront as this is the place where many restaurants and little shops are found. This is also where various inter island ferries are located. If you drive, free parking is available. Often we found live music and other entertainment.

Nanaimo has a lovely promenade along the harbour side where you can view the fishing and pleasure boats, stop for a bite to eat or an ice cream, continue on to a playground right on the ocean and watch the sea planes take off and...More

Nanaimo Harbour is great for walking and enjoying the coming and going of boats and float planes. Take time to sit back and relax. You won't regret it.

We really enjoyed this flat, scenic walk. It goes within blocks of the Departure Bay ferry all the way to the downtown casino. Several “temporary “ art displays along the way in addition to the changing harbour views.

A good place to walk. There is a park for the kids to play and is very scenic. Parking is free for the first three hours which is great

We were docked at the pier where the cruise ships were. It’s a nice stroll down to the Waterfront from the terminal. About a maximum 20 minute walk free of hills. A few photo opts and the local craft market.

I am assuming you are going east-west, Vancouver to Nanaimo. I would definitely call BC Ferries (1-888-223-3779) who are usually most helpful. Go on their website first and look at the routes. Neither ferry from Vancouver... More
