I really appreciate the beautiful photos and positive commentary people have posted here about Shack Island. As a 4th generation resident, I would like to assure everyone that all the cabins (not really shacks) are owned, maintained and used in the summer by descendants of the original Nanaimo fishermen who build them in the 30s - 50s. We're pleased to... More

The perfect place to get married, have a picnic, go beachcombing, swimming, or just enjoy nature and the beautiful scenery.

Went here during our stay. It is a small park with access to the coast and a walk towards Shack island. I was underwhelmed by it as there are lots of places with good views across the bay.

A beautiful park. Watch the vessel traffic, look for whales, take in the scenery, enjoy the hike, admire the Garry oak trees, meditate.

We spent a few days in Nanaimo and visited this park one morning. Great views of ferries leaving Departure Bay, the shore, and mountains. We walked around, sat on the beach, watched bald eagles (and heard them call to each other) and walked among the astounding number of oyster shells at low tide. Amazing. A relatively small park but lots... More

Pipers is a natural beautiful park. There are many paths and scenery to look at, we have even had a paddle board rental business drop off boards and went around the island. This trip was to make it out to Shack Island. A tiny grouping of old boarded up homes but I think one is still being lived in so... More

great to walk around the little park. It's a little bit of a climb once you get to the end of the path but it wasn't too difficult. There was an eagles nest that we got to spot and at low tide, the beach in the lagoon is very pretty. Great place to check out Shack Island as well~!
