The mining in Nanaimo exhibit was very interesting. The maps showing the waterways then and now, big comparison. You learn that excess rock from mining was dumped in the water. We totally enjoyed.

For the size of city - this is a great museum. I think it was only about $2 entry as well. They have displays that stay the same, but then some that change throughout the year. My son loves coming here!

I was very impressed with the very well stocked gift shop and the wonderfully friendly staffer, but the rest of the museum left me feeling a bit flat. It's a very old fashioned museum (albeit in a modern building) as the displays are quite static...More

Once you find a place to park, this museum will be a delightful surprise. It's a well presented overview of the history of the area, the historical industries of coal mining and logging. There's a great simulation of a coal mine that you can walk...More

Thank you for your visit to the Nanaimo Museum and glad you found a parking spot! If the streets fill up, the parking located under the Vancouver Island Conference Centre is usually the best option (entrances on Gordon street). Happy to hear you enjoyed the...More

I stumbled upon this gem while trying to keep my 5yo twins entertained on a visit to 'downtown' Nanaimo. Maya, who was manning the door, assured me the endeavour would be well-suited to the kids and when they heard they'd get a prize upon completing...More
