Opened in 1987 “to demonstrate the friendship and union between Kelowna and its sister city in Kasugai, Japan,” the Kasugai Gardens is a lovely moment of Zen in the busy city. This small garden features traditional elements notable in Japanese gardens, such as beautiful stonework, mini waterfalls and a pond stocked with large – beautiful – Koi fish. Taken together, these elements bring us a calming presence and allow for moments of personal reflection.
When we patronized this hidden gem of a site, BC was in the midst of a record heatwave. As such, we didn’t spend a significant amount of time exploring the garden, but we made sure to appreciate the intricate detail and planning that’s gone into this place. It speaks much to, and highlights, the importance of building cultural connections with communities near and far.
And while I wouldn’t go as far as an earlier reviewer and declare Kasugai Gardens “Like a miniature Butchart,” it is nevertheless a beautiful place to visit – and a must on any Kelowna itinerary.

This tiny garden is a hidden gem! It was cloudy the day we visited the garden but we were able to appreciate its beauty. I have only one suggestion concerning the plants featured in the garden. It would be interesting to add a little name tag describing the plants. For more pictures, visit my IG (@kelledstyle) :-)

Came here on a Tuesday after lunch to checkout the garden. The garden is very well done - very tranquil with seating area and koi in the pond. Certainly, a great place to chat with a friend, eat a snack/lunch, or just contemplate your existence. There was a slight breeze while we were there which was nice. Very well done albeit a little smaller than we were expecting. Great location as it is right across the water front and boardwalk. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

What a beautiful gem in downtown Kelowna! Its very well cared for. Its a bit hard to find. We were on the Taste of Kelowna food tour which was great to learn a bit about the beautiful park and the fish in the pond.

Beautiful garden right downtown. Managed to find the fish who were all hiding under the bridge. It was the Easter long weekend and only 16 degrees but I guess that was too hot for them already, lol.

This little garden was peaceful and well maintained... visited here in the off season so we were the only ones in the garden. It was very well groomed. the ducks and fish in the garden were a great addition to it. if you have a few minutes to spare i would recommend that you take the time to tour this small but tranquil garden!

We enjoyed a quiet, calm walk through the Kasugai Japanese Garden on a very warm May long weekend. So relaxing and beautiful.

Its a nice garden and its not very big. You could see it in like 10 minutes if you wanted. Its hidden right behind city hall right on Water St.

The garden is tiny, not somewhere you can explore. It takes maybe 5minutes to see the whole thing. It is lovely, but when we went it was full of interesting characters and people smoking pot. I felt like it might be a hangout for drug deals. Not unsafe, but not ideal for a walk with our son.

Did the quick tour of the garden (it's really small) and were impressed with how well maintained it was. It is a beautiful garden and a relaxing stop in a visit of the downtown core.

How late in the season is this still nice?
Written September 25, 2018
Sorry didn't see this question till now. The Garden I believe is closed now. Usually closes in Oct/Nov. The garden is beautiful anytime of the year that it is open. It should open again in March.

where to stay between kamloops and calgary
Written February 27, 2015
It depends how far you would like to go on the first day and what kind of environment you prefer. Revelstoke is a really nice mountain town with a very pleasant downtown vibe. It's only about 2 1/2 hrs from Kamloops so would leave you with a 4 1/2 hr drive the next day, during which you may want to stop for the spectacular scenery in the national parks which would add a bit to your time. Or you could drive 5 1/2 hrs the first day and stay in Banff, which is a very busy tourist town with prices to match but nevertheless a beautiful spot. Or stay in Canmore just down the road, also a beautiful town. It would leave you with just an hour's drive to Calgary from there.
There are also other stops along the way, just as Golden, between Recelstoke and Banff. Or Field, a really tiny place between Golden and Banff with a cool little lodge called the Truffle Pigs. Good restaurant there too. It really depends on the type of place you like.
