When my partner and I were plotting and planning our Okanagan itinerary, Riverside Park was one of the “must stop” locations. The combination of high ratings, good words and beautiful pictures won us over and, we thought, promised an epic experience. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the park and explored, we left feeling a little underwhelmed. I mean, it’s a nice park, but far from being the “Most amazing park,” to quote an earlier review.

As we ambled about in the hot summer sun, we enjoyed the greenspace, weeping willow trees, access to the Thompson River and Uji Friendship Garden. The Friendship Garden, by the way, is a nice bit of contemporary history: It signifies the “sister city relationship” between Kamloops and Uji, Japan. In seeing this, I couldn’t help but think of similar arrangements elsewhere in the Province (Prince Rupert and Victoria). It really is nice when we can, as upstanding citizens, form relationship and foster goodwill between different cities and countries. Such symbolism seems distant and challenging in our current day.

In any event, while we weren’t blown away by this park (the #2 thing to do in Kamloops?), I’m sure many others will enjoy it: The children’s waterpark, small beach, basketball and tennis courts speak to a much larger audience. For us, though, it was just a stop.

This is a family friendly park with lots of space and shade for a family picnic in July. The playground and splash park were a hit with my grand son. We come down here often and live it.

This park is excellent! There is so much to do! Great for people of all ages especially children! They have a beach and roped off swim area, bathrooms and change rooms, spray park, multiple playgrounds, lots of shade and picnic areas, food trucks, and beautiful views. We always stop here when we come through Kamloops. Definitely check it out!

We had an overnight stay in Kamloops and thought of spending sometime at the Riverside Park. A great park in front of the water with lots of trees, splash park, grass fields, walking trail and a beach. An excellent place to relax. Loved watching the sunset at the pier – gorgeous views.

The park is great for the water park, kids for things to do and for walking but the concession stand should have been open, even with COVID-19

Great waterfront park. In August, there was no closure due to flooding, everything seemed to be open. Good playground, riverfront bike riding/walking trail. Lots of picnic benches and green space to allow people to spread out.

Unfortunately because of the recent flooding in Kamloops the beaches were flooded and we could not enjoy them. We have been here before so I was disappointed as the weather was hot and it would have enjoyed the beach.
