The totems are all wonderful and each one has a plaque with a description of the torem and noting the artist/carveer. The last in the trail is worth seeing just for its girth.

initially could not find any totem poles but once i realised that the yellow foot prints led us on the totem tour, it became fun to see how varied the different totem poles were. Scattered around the town and all individual.

We came for the raptor center and the totems. The totems were really weak. The downtown shopping was really weak and strangely organized. I would not return for the totems, it seemed to be a marketing gimmick.

Will be going back in the summer. Lovely town, great restaurants, traffic is easy to negotiate. Island life is great.

I believe there are upwards of 82 totems on the streets of Duncan the city of Totems. Each one carved by local First Nation/native indian to represent, history through stories carved in local red cedar trees. A more beautiful educational site you will never see...More

A clearly marked path around Duncan takes you on a tour of the totem poles. Every pole has an explanation of it's meaning and also a history of the artist who carved it.

There are yellow footprints painted on the ground for people to follow, and detailed descriptions of each totem pole in front of each. I did not see a printed brochure of the route but we didn't feel it was needed. I hope... More
