About
Averill Creek is a low intervention winery on Vancouver Island. Our aim is to produce honest wines that reflect our site and the vintage, but that first and foremost give pleasure. By intervening less, we are able to provide a clear segue from vineyard to glass.

Tasting included 5 very nice wines, a generous cheese board, and helpful information from our friendly host. We unexpectedly had a chance to meet and chat with the owner. Nice patio and view. We ended up staying about 2 hours. Would highly recommend. The price listed on Trip Advisor is for an outside tour and is not the tasting charge on this winery.

A wonderful setting on a hill overlooking the vineyards and a terrific view beyond. The wines are good quality and we enjoyed a "flight" taster of 5 wines. We really liked the Charme De L'ile (sparkling) and ordered a bottle to accompany our 3 delicious appetizers. We were allowed to take the 1/2 bottle left-over home, but had to purchase a corking apparatus for the bottle ?!?
My only observation note about the operation, is that the service is very limited and sporadic, we were left on our own to open the bottle of wine that we purchased for the table.

Great small vineyard in Duncan offering a variety of organic, pure wines from Cowichan valley.
I took the self guided tour & got 5 wines to sample with the sparkling white my favourite - light, refreshing with just a little hint of sparkle.
The shop is quaint yet it has a large patio (didn't partake as it was raining). Host was very knowledgeable and friendly -

Averill Creek has been a favourite for us from the day it opened but alas after our last couple of experiences we regret to say we will not go again despite the beautiful patio and lovely view. The service is becoming infamous for its inappropriate responses to guests and one wonders if that's a Covid side effect or because of labour shortages. I think we can forgive the horrible service we received. However, not the horrible "wine"! Ugh! Ghastly. Out of 5 so called "wines" offered, one was lovely, one was not even wine, one was cloudy and obviously not properly racked and finished, one had a very strange fizz and tasted bad, and one was well on its way to becoming vinegar. It took the winery staff two hours to serve us. After one and three quarter hours of this, we had to ask them to "hurry" things along and it still took them another 15 minutes to come to our table as we watched them tidy up tables in the essentially deserted seating area. As it was a cold rainy day we were quite chilled at the end of all that. We had out of town guests who were quite shocked by the fact we had brought them to a place for a wine tasting - but the "drinks" served were inferior to what our guests called "cool-aid". The cheese was absolutely delicious. And we paid the $100 bill with some sense of a "sigh". Sorry Averill Creek ... we are wondering "what happened?".

It has been about 6 years since the last time I had visited Averill Creek Vineyard, I always remembered the experience as fantastic with an opportunity to not only taste some quality wines, but learn about the winery itself and the continued production of their portfolio. However, this last visit was poor at best. Yes the scenery as always was beautiful, however upon first arrival, the group I was with felt put off by the reception we received at the wine tasting bar. Very little information was given besides telling us it was a self guided tasting and wanting to know how many would be tasting. No real hello and welcome to Averill Creek Vineyard. Our family sat at the table outside in a beautiful patio area. Within a few minutes the server brought out our tastings and said to ask if we had any questions. We did not see our server again, nor did anyone else come to us and ask how things were. It felt more like we were bothering the staff as opposed to anything else.
As someone who enjoys learning a bit about the winery and is an avid reader about wine in general, I was hoping for a bit more from the staff, at least a check in would have been nice.
Unfortunately, it left a bit of a sour note for our whole party. I know that generally this winery would receive good reviews, however I hope management has the time to remind their staff that the customer always comes first. It is imperative for them to check and provide a great experience for all customers, no matter how small or big the party is.
I hope if I return to Averill Creek again, we will see some better service from their staff. It's too bad. A beautiful view, but poor service led to a poor experience.

So disappointed although we were warned. This place has a reputation for terrible service…The unfriendly and unwelcoming staff started off our visit here. Then the wine glasses were dirty. The bathrooms were dirty. Oh and the manager was passive aggressive and unprofessional. Thankfully there are so many other wineries to visit. I would not recommend this place despite the beautiful view and the wine was good. Just not worth the terrible treatment.

We haven't been thrilled by BC"s red wines, so when we tasted Avrill"s pinot noir at a class recently and liked it, we were delighted! We made the quick trip up from Victoria (about an hour) to the Vinyard for a tasting, and had a great time. Of course, in 2020, this includes extra measures to keep us all healthy, and we appreciated their care. The hostess quickly prepared our tastings, and was available for questions. She gave us an extra tasting when we were interested in their blackberry tawny, which was overshadowed by the blackberry dessert wine - the first fruit wine we've ever actually enjoyed! We left with a case of wines including the pinot noirs which certainly rival any we've had from Oregon"s Willamette valley.

We stopped by for a visit this past Sunday, I had made a reservation.
When I made the reservation we were told we would have to leave by 5 as a special event was planned for the evening. That was not a problem.
When we arrived we were told we would have to leave by 5 by the hostess.
When our waiter plunked down our tastings we were told again we would have to leave by 5
When I called the waiter over to purchase a bottle of wine I was told again we would have to leave by 5.
When I went on to pay for the bottle of wine I was told we would have to leave by 5.
The staff spent most of our time there talking and arranging tables around us as if we weren’t even there, it was not yet 5.
Staff was very uninterested in us.
I was in fact scolded by our waiter for not returning our tasting glasses to the clean up bin, I had tried to earlier but the bin had been taken away and not replaced.
All in all not a very nice experience, we also ordered food from the Italian food truck...quite overpriced for what you get, we waited forever and the order was screwed up.
Bathrooms were dirty and not well kept.
Could not recommend this spot.
Disappointing experience.
We did leave by 5!!!!

Wow, soooo beautiful! The wine is outstanding. All of the staff were professional and friendly. We did eight different wineries on our weekend and this one was definitely the best. Will be back for sure. If you're looking for outstanding wine, this is the place!

Whatever you do, don't order a wine delivery from Averill Creek for someone else. I was so disappointed today to discover that even though I connected with an employee there and was reassured that everything would go smoothly on the date I wanted the delivery (birthday) and on the message I asked them to include in the delivery, neither of those things happened. The wine was delivered the very next day!!
So probably fine if you want a home delivery for yourself and don't have any special requests. For me, it ruined what was meant to be a special surprise.

Can you buy a picnic lunch at the winery?
Do you need reservation?
Written August 29, 2017
Hi. You can purchase cheese and crackers but unless you hire a/their chef for an event, bring your own food. Only need to buy wine and you can enjoy their beautiful view! Hope this helps 😊
