wonderful insight into the lives of these people then and now
Aug 2019
My husband and I have been visiting the Yukon for many years and this summer we finally went to the museum. It is across the street from the visitor center on the banks of the Yukon River. We were drawn by the girls singing outside and the drummer. Touring the museum was a humbling experience. The film set us up for the exhibits. There was an exhibit on drying salmon and the canoes used. We learned about the customs, traditions, and way of life before and after the Gold Rush. Take your time here to read the descriptions and ask questions from the young First Nations tour guides who will tell you their stories. A truly humbling and respectful view of these resilient people.

Must-see Historic, Cultural, and Life experience
Jul 2019
A must-see destination. Visited on June 10, 2019. Friendly knowledgeable staff, excellent historic perspective, lovely historic and modern works of art on display and for sale in the gift shop. Import to read the historical and cultural pressures imposed by European settlement and the wise response of the First Nation leadership. The movie is excellent. Washrooms on site. Walking distance from Dawson City hotels and the Gold Rush RV campground. Beautiful location along the side of the Yukon River.

Wonderful overview of the culture - past and present
Sep 2019
The 20 minute movie in the little theatre was probably the best overall information, and it set up our visit to the center itself. The history of the people and how things progressed over the years, including stories on how things came to be (like the MooseHide slide). Very respectful and beautifully set up displays.

Fascinating insight into First Nations history and culture
Sep 2019
I took a tour of the Danoja Zho collection of historical artifacts with Fran, a member of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation. The story of how the indigenous people of the Dawson area were displaced during the Gold Rush, and how they doggedly fought back to ensure their rights, is a truly inspiring narrative, culminating in an agreement with the federal government in 1998 that gave the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in the right of self-government.

The Tour Made The Experience Really Great!
Aug 2019
A small but very interesting cultural centre. You learn so much about the Danoja Zho culture which is fascinating. We had a tour with a young 19 year old First Nations guide who was absolutely fantastic! He had so many insights and stories that helped everyone perhaps understand Canadian First Nations history in a new light! A must visit!!!

Amazing
Aug 2019 • Couples
The centre was established to tell the story of the First Nations demise with the onset of the gold rush and the struggle to recover and retain their cultural, land and language rights. See the 15 minute introductory film and give yourself an hour to view the exhibits. Highly educational.

A beautiful building in which I learned a lot about the first inhabitants of the area. Don't miss the short documentary shown in the theatre!

Great experience

This was a very enjoyable learning experience. The exhibits and the interpretive film help you see how the first Nations people lived and how their lives changed with the Klondike gold rush.
