learn about Dawson from prehistory through the Gold Rush
Aug 2019
The museum is housed in the Old Territorial Administration Building so your history lesson begins even before entering. The exhibits take you from prehistory through the Gold Rush. You learn how the lives of the First Nations people were changed by the fur trade then by the Gold Rush. The story of the Gold Rush is told through the stampeders, the entrepreneurs, and the soiled doves. The history of Dawson City from tent town to the Paris of the North is portrayed through exhibits. The use of the many mannequins dressed in the clothing of the time being part of the exhibits instead of just using the furniture really brings the era to life. Take your time to read the descriptions to really get a feel for the times. As a newly minted senior, I found I was really interested in the "artifacts" as I had used several of them myself. Don't miss the court room upstairs. Enjoy!

I was very impressed with the building let alone the interesting displays and artefacts inside.Great representation of life in the far north. The museum restoration was well done and you see the fine workmanship of that period. Very informative displays and well worth a visit.

Interesting Museum

Really enjoyed the film. As a kid I grew up watching Pierre Berton on TV as he was a journalist, media personality, author and historian. The film was so interesting and gave me more insight into the "gold rush" history. The price was reasonable. Lots of other interesting info to read. Also sold some local art.

Interesting museum

Very informative. Enjoyed our visit very much. Dawson is easy to get around to visit. One of the restaurants we definitely wanted to eat at closed without notice which was a bummer. I asked a small business owner for recommendation but disappointed with food. Although there was a friendly raven who joined us on the porch, we were directed not to feed him and our plates were removed when I continued to do so. 😂

Great Museum
Aug 2019
We visited the museum and found it excellent. In particular, the gold mining activities were a highlight.
The tourist guide who worked the rocker box and refined the gold without getting a spot of dirty water on her dress was terrific. There were many other interesting photographs and items within a beautiful old timber building. Worth seeing!

Interesting visit to the museum over the history a bit more then 100 years ago.
What I found very interesting was the railroad, wich eventually did not come. The old steam locomotives are impressive to see.
It was worth the effort.

Great place
Jul 2019
The tour was interesting and very informative. Liked the film in the theatre. The raven quilt was beautiful. Liked the little displays set up, the trappers cabin, the piano, the bike, the parlour. Upstairs, the court house was neat, the displays and info in the corridor about the ladies of the night was really good. I enjoyed finding out about all the purposes the building had been used for. The garden outside is really nice.
