Came up for a couple of days with the missus and our dog. The views of the mountains up the lake are insane and the water is fresh and cold for swimming and floating. We found a shady campsite right on the lake that we could drive right into and setup.

Once the sun went down on the first night our dog started growling and barking up at the road, I went to see what was there and there was a medium sized black bear very close at the site entrance. I scared it off quickly and it ran back into the bush.

It returned the second night as I forgot to put a small garbage bag we had hanging from a tree away and me and the dog barked it away again.

Be careful with your food and other attractants here!

Jones Lake BC, Some people have no respect for nature or even appreciate the fact the camping is free. Take your crap with you when you go. There was too much garbage left by others at our site to take it all with us., we took some and all of our own.

Beautiful place, however after a scary bear encounter, I was looking at some reviews and found someone mention a black bear in the area, not afraid of people. This is true, I was sitting beside the campfire late night and a huge black bear just decided to stroll up within maybe 10 feet of me. I stood up and started backing away, yelling at the bear but he didn't seem to care at all. The bear kept coming towards me but I was able to back away to my car. The bear then carried on to another campsite where I heard several gunshots go off, so I decided to drive over to their campsite. When I got there they told me the bear had done the same thing and walked directly up to them, so one of them started firing off their gun and that too didn't work to scare off the bear.... scary stuff. Beautiful beautiful place, just make sure you're still being aware that you are in bear territory.

Jones Lake - what can I say… I love the ease of getting to it, the beauty that surrounds it and the constant breeze shooing away the bugs.

But I absolutely hate the idiots that ruin it and they were there in force this weekend. Sad to say we won’t go back. Cars on fire, fights, non stop screaming throughout the night and drunks ripping through the campsite at all hours of the night - I expected a serious injury or worse.

Sorry but don't waste your time or vehicle to visit or camp at this lake. It is the most disgusting place we have been to. Everyone has left their garbage in the forest, in the lake at on the roadway and on the shore. They have made the forest floor their personal toilet with used toilet paper and feces everywhere among the trees and the forest. The whole trip was depressing. Don't know what is wrong with people but maybe they should stay home if they can't respect nature. Such a shame.

This location has a pristine lake and gorgeous view of the glaciers to the south. While the mosquitos weren’t too bad there were flies absolutely swarming us, which I haven’t experienced when camping before, not sure where they were coming from. The road up isn’t half as bad as others here are saying, you can make it up easily enough. We had a peaceful and tranquil experience here

Jones is BEAUTIFUL, I cannot recommend it enough. Don’t go on a Grad weekend is all I suggest! It’s bumpy but any car will make it. I don’t suggest leaving the car at the bottom.
When you get to the first fork in the road going up the hill turn right and the second fork a right again :) enjoy the no service, bring a picnic and in the snow time prepare for a lot of it up there but they do clear it so you can make it a little ways in.

I took my family to Jones Lake last year for camping and all I can say it was the best we have done in years. We spent only 5 days but it was the best 5 days ever. I truly recommend going to Jones Lake for camping.

What a challenge it was to drive up here. On our way, we have seen at least 1 sedan, 2 SUV's stuck. It was a wee bit scary but we pushed through until we reached the top and back. I wonder why they are not maintaining the road? Is it because it is logging area? Who knows?

The lake was nice even though the sun did not come out. We had breakfast, took pictures and left.

The drive left much to be desired unless you like slow, steep, narrow and really bumpy trails. I would take a friends car up there but not my own. Great road for trucks and goats...
BUT.... Once you get to the BC Hydro campsite it's worth the trek. It is what I would imagine the here after looks like. It seems that this jewel of a lake was placed at the foot of those mountains to make this person awe stricken. This would be a very busy place if it wasn't for the road but the ride is worth it for the venturous nature loving people who are willing to leave the pavement and venture on a path to paradise.
