You will never know what it is like to battle a sturgeon on the Fraser River until you do it!
We contacted Great River Fishing Adventures, Chilliwack, BC to book two days of sturgeon fishing and we opted to fish in the Canyon of the Fraser River, just north of Hope. As B.C. residents we have always appreciated the beauty of this Province and so the stunning scenery of the canyon, it’s rushing waters with back eddies and strong currents was the perfect place for the drama to unfold!
And, drama it was! With two excellent, experienced and friendly guides, Landon on the first day and Steve on the second, we managed to bring ten fish to the boat, two of which, we also took to the shore.
Fish sizes ranged from 8 ½ feet, approximately 340lbs, which dragged us over 7kms downstream, to a 2 ½ foot youngster who lay quietly in the cradle on the boat. The majority of the rest fell into the 5 1/2 to 7 1/2ft range. The fish were kissed on their heads before swimming away!
The power of these fish is indescribable! If you are not prepared to “hang on for grim death” and seize every precious opportunity to reel against the muscle and resistance of these prehistoric monsters, then this is not for you! It is a battle of dogged determination between you and the fish to see who will overcome!
We found it personally challenging, exhausting and exhilarating, straining every single muscle in our bodies to the max and what a rush it was! But, at the end of the day, we were both able to say “I did it”!
We will never forget this experience. It will be embedded in our memories as the time that Great River Fishing Adventures, with Dean, Alyssa, Landon and Steve enabled us to participate in an adventure of a lifetime.
Your professionalism, efficiency and friendliness were amazing. Thank you all so much, we will be back!

I bought a fishing trip with Great River Fishing for my 17 year old son to take 3 friends fishing for sturgeon in the canyon above Hope. B.C. This was the best graduation gift I could ever have imagined - especially since the Grade 12 students are not getting a real grad experience this year due to Covid-19.

What an experience on the water on June 26th with the fishing guide Mitch. Wonderful weather, wonderful environment and wonderful fishing! Last bite of the day was an 8-footer that jumped clear out of the water 4 times and ran the line out at least a dozen tims. The boys were freaking out!

They will rmember this time together for the rest of their lives!

This should be the graduation experience we want for all our young men and women.

We had an awesome time with our guide Mitch, top notch service, in all we caught a total of seven sturgeon and the last one was a monster 8' 7" weighing roughly 460 lbs. The lunch they provided was excellent and more than enough to feed our crew of 6 people. I would highly recommend Great River Fishing Adventures for your next fishing excursion you won't be disappointed!

What a great expereince. I wanted to take my grandson on his first sturgeon fishing experience -- what an amazing and memorable day. It started with booking the trip - Alyssa went to work quickly to assemble a trip that worked in our budget and timeframe. We caught 4 sturgeon over 4 hours and it was an epic day. Our guide Istvan, was simpy the best guide you could ask for. He wanted to ensure we caught some fish and he pulled out all the stops to make sure we did. He really knew the river and all the best spots. We left from Mission boat launch which was easy to find and convenient to get to. Thanks to the team at Great River Fishing adventures for an amazing and meorable day.

I have been fishing with Great river fishing for a number of years. Hence when I wanted to go fishing there was only one choice.
From the first contact with Alyssa to book the trip it was 1st class.
I booked the trip as I wanted my son who is autistic to catch a sturgeon. It did not mater if it was only a small one, just as long as he caught one.
We meet Landon our guide,at island 22 boat launch and were soon on our way. Landon explained to us the technique we were going to use, and it was fantastic to see how good he was explaining things to my son. He took the time to explain it very easy for him to understand.

It was not long before the rod started moving and with the help of Landon, my son was fighting a Sturgeon. He coached him all the way until we had the Sturgeon at the side of the boat. We slowly made it over to a near by beach. The Sturgeon was 6 ft long, and my son was over the moon happy. Our day had been made all ready, any other fish would be a bonus.
We re baited and cast again. We had many bites but no hooked fish until 2 hours later.
Then we hooked in to a big fish. With the expert advise from Landon, 37 minutes later we had it on the beach. It was 10 ft long and approximately 525 pounds.

We ended up catching 5 sturgeon on our trip.

Great river fishing, and Landon gave us a fantastic day out fishing and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants a great experience and a fantastic day fishing.

Hi Ian, Thanks so much for being a longtime loyal client, we truly appreciate your business over the many years. We are thrilled your planning was perfect and Alyssa and our office team work hard and efficiently. Landon is an excellent guide as are all our GRFA team guides and we love to pay attention to detail, have passion and most importantly, create amazing experiences. Taking the time to explain the fishery, what is involved and how best to hook them up, land them and safely handle them on shore is what we love to share. Fishers or not, there is something in each day out that brings smiles to faces and energizes clients. A realistic approach to the day, not expecting too much but a nice fish for your son and we found you some from a few different size ranges. True living dinosaurs to see, feel and release back into the wild to be caught another day. There is nothing better then Family Fishing Adventures and you made everyone happy and booked something to remember for a lifetime. One thing for sure is if you book a 8 hour day like you did, it is likely you will have the best chances throughout the day. We hope to have all of you out for many more years to come and WOW......thats a Big Sturgeon...! Monsters Live Here..... Cheers and great fishing, forever, Dean <")))><

Having wanted to fish for sturgeon for many years a decision was made to come and fish with Great River Fishing adventures. Having heard many great things about this company it seemed like the most logical decision to book with the best. Now let me tell you they absolutely pulled through with what myself and our crew of three other friends would only describe as an astonishingly great day on the water. Our guide Landon clearly knew the river well and his expertise and skill both driving the boat and putting us on the fish were top notch.

We started the day just up river from Hope and set our lines. Before we even had all the lines in the water we had a hit. The hook was set and we were on to our first fish. Although it appeared to be a reasonable size sturgeon at first it was only when it jumped after the first few minutes of the fight that we realized that we had an absolute monster on! After a 3.5 hour fight that saw all four of us taking turns reeling this absolute freight train of a fish we had it landed. Measurements were taken and at 9.6ft long this fish was without a doubt the fish of a lifetime! Pictures were taken and there were many high fives and cheers as we released it back into the river to let this 100+ year old dinosaur live on for another century.

Although all of our arms and backs were sore from this first fish we went up river again and Landon immediately had us back on the fish with another 6.5ft+ and a 3.5ft+ that saw for some great fights and some excellent education on sturgeon and the Fraser River!

We finished the day just up stream from where we launched after checking out some spectacular rapids and stunning canyon scenery. Another 6.5ft+ fish was on the line again and we fought it back down the river as it got into the current! It was pulled up besides the boat and the day was done. Off into the sunset we went!

It is this quality level of adventure and service that will bring me back to fight these massive fish again some other day. From the quality of the gear, the boat and the expertise of the guide and the experience I cannot speak highly enough of this company and what they do!

If you’re on the fence on a sturgeon adventure like no other than look no further than Great River Fishing Adventures!

Had an incredible day with young Landon who took us way up north from Hope BC and assisted us in reeling in some monsters. Ours biggest was just over 7 feet and to us that was a huge fish. Landon mentioned how he has brought in and landed Sturgeon in the range of 11+ feet!

Any questions we had, Landon had the answer for us instantly and we thoroughly enjoyed our day. If you or a family member are on the fence about booking a trip, I would highly highly recommend Deans company. Alyssa was our girl to correspond with and not only was she organized and diligent, she was a pleasure to talk to and assist us on any and all questions we had. A huge thumbs up to Great River fishing, Dean, Landon and Alyssa

Breathtaking scenery in Fraser River past Hope toward Yale, BC. Great River Fishing guide, Landon, very patient and polite young man with 2 old docs who think they know everything. Excellent and safe boats and equipment. Got to first spot 10 minutes from boat launch and hit 2 x 6 foot sturgeons within 10 minutes of lines hitting the water. This fishing kept up all day...hit 10 fish, early released 2 and landed to boat 8...all 5-7 feet long. Next day my back hurts and my right elbow from cranking the reel.
This is a quality and unique fishery and Great River Fishing has helped me enjoy it for 4 times already and I am eager to get back and do it again.

Our guide Istvan knows the river so well, even with the height of the river and the fast current he knew where to anchor the boat and catch a few of them big sturgeons. My grandson was blown away by the fight they put up and the strength of them. I will be returning in the fall for a chance when the river is down to its normal size. Istvan took the time to let us look at the fish while in the water and take pictures. I was excited to watch Istvan get excited when my 16 yr. old grandson was bringing in his fish.

We booked a 2 day experience with GFRF and Istvan File as our guide. The plan was to do some salmon fishing and sturgeon fishing over the 2 days. salmon fishing on the Fraser is currently closed but we travelled up the Vedder and were not disappointed. Our guide out did him self on the sturgeon side of the trip. we landed a 8 foot 10 with a girth of 47 inches and a calculated weight of 440 lbs . Istvan kept working with different baits and the supply sturgeon kept coming . Our guide provided 1st class fishing equipment with a excellently prepared boat that combined with his knowledge of the river made for a fantastic 2 days. We will be back next year . Thank you to the staff and crew of Great River Fishing Adventures

Hi Randy, Appreciate you taking the time to leave a thorough review of our company and team guide Istvan. The fishing is always a very big part of the adventure but knowing you looked around at the equipment and condition of the clean boat is almost more important to us. We regard cleaning and excellent equipment as essential when clients are paying good money for our services. Our team of guides like Istvan were hand picked and they all have huge passion, knowledge and experience on the Fraser River and all it tributaries, your trip means the world to them. Over the past 35 years we continue to have so many returning clients, this seems indicate we have really paid attention to detail and the clients needs. That is one heck of a big Sturgeon and we hope we can find you another monster like that when you return next year. Thanks for your business and we really look forward to keeping you "hooked" on our adventures and team. Cheers and great fishing, forever, Dean <")))><
