Too many times I had driven through Quesnel and NOT made the turn to explore Barkerville...This time we made the stop after doing the Bowron lakes circuit!...Wow this place has got character! Is in Character for the 1860's gold rush era...There is sooo much to see and listen to from the staff that operate this town as if it was... More

The atmosphere is the one of a mining village of the XIX / beginning of the XX century. Interesting jump in the past. Worth the detour.

Barkerville is a old town which established at the cariboo gold rush. You can watch a nice show at Theatre Royal, do gold panning (where you'll find real gold) and hear a lot about the history of Barkerville. Every day there are a lot of things you can do or shows you can watch.

Although I grew up in the area, I'd never been. Made it a detour on my trip with my kids and I'm so glad I did! So much to see, I think we only did about half of it in the 3/4 of a day we spent there. Love the historic photo we had done, and the ice cream was... More

What can I say other than it's seriously one of BC's best destinations. Everyone who works there is absolutely amazing. My kids love it so much we have been there 3 times and they want to go back again next year. As an adult I also enjoy everything it has to offer. You will not even touch the surface of... More

Spent the afternoon here with my daughter, soaking up history and shopping for unique stationary (pen & quill sets) gold panning gear & other one of a kind gifts. Love to see young & old in costume. Good conversations & pleasing food. The only complaint I have is about the "sourdough" bread, which isn't sourdough at all. Just a blob... More

We so enjoyed Barkerville historic town....lots of history and fantastic employees to tell the stories....I especially liked the school house reenactment, the water wheel and the cemetery tour. We even had some Chinese food....try to stay two days or more, one is not enough. Because we went end of June we were able to stay in the parking lot next... More

Although we have traveled the World, this was our first visit to Barkerville. What a great experience. We were there for 1.5 days and still were not able to take in everything. The actors and performers are terrific. We were only able to take in one show at Theatre Royal and what a talented group. We so pleased that a... More

Great family trip to Barkerville. Lots to see and do from the school tracher's lessons to the musical revue and courthouse reenactment. Highly recommend the stagecoach rides as they reinforce the whole historical experience. Don't forget the root beer barrel candies at the General Store and a meal at Wake Up Jakes. Enjoy!

I have visited Barkerville 3 times now - once as a kid, once as a university grad, and this time as a parent. I think every resident of BC should visit at least once. Our kids are 6 and 9, and while they weren't quite as engaged as we were, they still had a good time. Apparently Barkerville is in... More
