Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian Rockies and those remnants of the last Ice Age still cling to the cliffs, rest in the cirques and cap off the pinnacles of Maligne Lakes' fabulous ring of 3,360 meter mountains. It is the melt waters of those glaciers that give the lake its' lovely, tranquil-blue colour and that backdrop of lofty peaks which holds back the busy world and provides a calming wilderness experience.

World-famous Spirit Island, on Maligne Lake is the heart and soul of Jasper National Park. Accessible only by boat this diminutive icon of the Canadian Rockies is the destination point of the scenic Maligne Lake cruise.

The worldwide fame of Maligne Lake is historically and intrinsically bound to the art of Photography. Diminutive Spirit Island, resting in the hall of the Gods at the south end of Maligne Lake is, arguably the most photographed locale in the Canadian Rockies.

Wonderful scenery & lovely cruise

This was a lovely way to end our stay in Jasper. The views of mountains and Spirit Island are wonderful and Beth and Captain Vickie were both delightful as our guides on the lake.

A lovely boat trip that gives you the freedom to listen to the interesting observations about the lake in warm comfortable surroundinga or go out on deck and experience the amazing views even closer. Shout out to Kylie and Kate, who are clearly the best tour guide/driver combo out there!

Very enjoyable lake cruise to serene Spirit Island. On the way there, we passed by majestic mountains and a beautiful glacier. The crew gave a narrative as we cruised on. A bit pricey but the iconic photos we were able to capture of the island as we walked close to it were worth it. The Maligne Lake Lodge offers hot... More

While in Jasper, we did the driving tour of the Maligne Highway, which terminates at Maligne Lake. There is a great deal of outdoor activities in the area as well as your fun tourist stuff. Hikes, canoe rentals and of course the guided tours to Spirit Island, for which we opted. While a bit pricy (around $65 per person), it... More

We were finishing the hike at the Skytram in Jasper, when we stopped for a quick beer at the top of the tram. We met a local and he raved about Maligne Lake (wallpaper on his cell). We drove to the lake from Jasper in about 45 minutes (lots of wildlife (bears, elk, etc). We made it to this beautiful... More

Dear Highway911, Thank you for visiting us at the lake, and for your kind words! The captains and guides keep an attentive eye on TripAdvisor, and are really excited when they spot their name on a review. :) The changing color of the lake is one of the most amazing features, although not the first people notice with all the... Maligne Lake is a natural jewel, and that s is the best way to see it and the surroundings mountains and glaciers. The crew were very knowledgable, and were willing to answer a multitude of questions from our 7 year old granddaughter. We really enjoyed this cruise and strongly recommend it to anyone visiting the Park. Book your tour times... More

The cruise is simply taking y to the tiny Spirit Island, staying for 15 minutes taking pictures, and returning to departure port. The scene is beautiful, the water is clear and calm. But that's it. $65 per person seems overpriced.

Dear Aliu66, Thank you for visiting us at Maligne Lake and thank you for your review. It sounds like you enjoyed the tour and views, but did not feel the experience was a good value for the money. Boat trip out on to this beautiful lake takes 90 minutes and Laura narrated on the way to Spirit Island pointing out all the interesting aspects of the tour. It's lovely to see how dedicated parks Canada are to their parks and this is no exception very little is disturbed by us tourists in for a quick visit of wonder.... More

Dear Travelgirl275, Thank you for visiting us at the lake and for the review! I agree, Parks is doing a very good job keeping the Maligne area pristine and natural for those of us who are here today, and those who will come after us. Their stewardship is probably somewhat taken for granted most of the time. It's amazing you... More

We had booked online and just made it to our scheduled departure, stressful, so be sure you give yourself plenty of extra time to get there. It was a rainy day unfortunately and the windows were foggy but you still got a treat with the scenery, especially when we arrived at the island. The guide was informative on the trip... More
