Maligne Lake is the largest glacially formed and fed lake in the Canadian Rockies and those remnants of the last Ice Age still cling to the cliffs, rest in the cirques and cap off the pinnacles of Maligne Lakes' fabulous ring of 3,360 meter mountains. It is the melt waters of those glaciers that give the lake its' lovely, tranquil-blue colour and that backdrop of lofty peaks which holds back the busy world and provides a calming wilderness experience.

World-famous Spirit Island, on Maligne Lake is the heart and soul of Jasper National Park. Accessible only by boat this diminutive icon of the Canadian Rockies is the destination point of the scenic Maligne Lake cruise.

The worldwide fame of Maligne Lake is historically and intrinsically bound to the art of Photography. Diminutive Spirit Island, resting in the hall of the Gods at the south end of Maligne Lake is, arguably the most photographed locale in the Canadian Rockies.

Spirit Island is nothing more than a little peninsula into Maligne Lake (as shown in the thumbnail). The 30 minute boat ride ends at a dock near the "island", where travelers can disembark to take pictures or use the washroom. You do not actually step on Spirit Island itself, as this would result in its destruction very quickly. Other than... More

Beautiful views, smooth boat ride. Worth the trip up. Magical in the early morning as it was completely foggy against the blue water before our boat trip out.

Always eager to show off our Province, we ensured we had a booking for this cruise. We arrived in plenty of time and picked up our tickets as group after group turned away disappointed because they had not booked. Boarding was on time, but we waited a few minutes for a late passenger. I would hope for the same courtesy,... More

We spent a few hours at Lake Maligne and this was definitely the highlight. The staff were courteous and knowledgeable and made the trip a great experience.

If you're staying in Jasper the drive to Maligne Lake and then a cruise on the lake should be a priority on your list of things to do. The drive is beautiful and you have a chance to see wildlife. The operative word here is a "chance". Best times are early morning and evening around dusk. If you get lucky,... More

This cruise is an hour and a half and is simply spectacular. Rugged mountains, glaciers, coloured waters, and it stops at Spirit Island for great photos of a special scene. The commentary is great and it's interesting the captain, like many places in Alaska too, is a young woman.

We book a Brewster package and one of the attractions is the maligne lake cruise. Be sure to reserve ahead, since the boats are almost booked all the time. Great views to the surrounding mountains. Visit spirit island. Nice walk along the shores too.

So me and my friend booked the day of our cruise, dont do this! We got very lucky getting the last two seats for our preferred departure day. The view was amazing (well what we could see. It was quite rainy and very foggy out so the view was kinda blocked) but our guide and captain made the entire cruise.... More

We had a voucher for a cruise on Maligne Lake. We were staying in Jasper, the ride to Maligne Lake was great. Our cruise on the lake was beautiful and our guide, Scott, was very knowledgable about the lake, the mountains and the history of both. I would recommend this tour for families, couples or solo. Scott also let us know... More
