About
The Jasper Tour Company is an Indigenous owned, boutique experience that offers fun and adventurous trips out into Jasper National Park. Our head guide, Joe Urie is a member of the Métis Nation and his people have been living and guiding along the Athabasca River for so long that he has come to consider its waters to be the blood in his veins. Drawing from both his Indigenous and European heritage, he’ll bring you to a better understanding of this place by giving you an excellent view of how it was and how it is. He delivers the mountains and all of their inhabitants to you with his knowledge, humour, storytelling and a passion for this place that he has called home for more than three decades. If you are planning on heading out in search of some of the Asiniwaciya’s (Rocky Mountains) wild inhabitants, doing it with the Jasper Tour Company has been described as "simply the best!". Come see for yourself!

Joe is a masterful teller of the narrative history of the Athabaska region. We saw lots of places of significance, talked present, past and distant past landscapes and explored the broad relations between place and kin. And saw some wildlife. Been visiting Jasper region for over 30 years and I saw places I had not encountered before. A marvellous tour all around, highly recommended for any of the planned or private tour topics. I am wiser for our time together. Maarsi Joe and Patti!

My husband & I had the opportunity to spend one full day in Jasper National Park. And we knew that the cookie-cutter tour experience was not what we wanted. Then we found The Jasper Tour Company website. This was exactly what we were looking for. Being able to see the spectacular scenery & wildlife, but also learning about the beautiful Métis culture and history. We chose the 6 hour private tour which we were able to tailor to our needs by being picked up at a local restaurant, and a tour that didn't include much walking. We had such a wonderful time with Joe Urie. We saw so many beautiful sights & animals, but we also learned so very much. We now have memories that will last a life time. Thank you Joe!

Our wildlife tour with Joe was unforgettable! Joe is extremely knowledgeable and informed about the area as he and his wife Patti are experts in local Jasper history and culture. We set out for an early morning wildlife tour at 7am — at Patti’s encouragement and advice, we departed as early as possible to maximize the opportunities to see animals before the heat of the day. Patti’s advice was 1000 percent correct! Within 15 minutes of departing, Joe spotted a mom and her cubs in a tree! (This is during a period in Jasper when bears were coming into town - obviously no guarantees that this trend will continue). We couldn’t believe our eyes. Joe and Patti also provided binoculars for all guests— I was very grateful for that crucial item as I had not thought to pack my own pair. After an amazing hour of watching the bears, we drove around Jasper and its surroundings and spotted elk; bighorn sheep; a coyote; and a bald Eagle. Joe knows EVERYTHING about animals and has a keenly trained eye to spot them, plus is steeped in local Jasper and Métis culture— it was an absolute pleasure and treat to spend the morning with him. Thank you to Patti for pushing us to get out the door at 7am and also for the additional advice on Jasper accommodations, and to Joe for the fabulous morning. What a great company!

My wife and I booked a private tour with Joe. We loved every minute of the trip. Joe is personable and extremely knowledgeable. We saw bear (both types) ,elk, coyote, beavers, mountain goats, big horn sheep. Honestly I think we only thing we did not see was Bigfoot!!!( wrong area I know but you get my meaning). Both of us agreed that it was the highlight of our trip to the Rockies. We really enjoyed learning the local history as well. This is one of the rare times that I think 5 stars is simply not enough

It was a privilege to take a tour with Joe! This is without a doubt the best tour we've taken anywhere. We had a four hour private tour where we looked for wildlife. Not only did we see a lot of wildlife, but we also learned some history of the area, background on various First Nations groups, and Joe shared some hilarious stories. Joe is incredibly knowledgeable and his passion for the area's flora, fauna, geography and history is infectious.
I can't recommend this tour highly enough.

Joe and Patti gave my family of five a wonderful introduction to Jasper National Park. Our tour was the Maligne Valley Adventure. We saw grizzly bear, black bear, moose, among other animals, as well as beautiful landmarks. Joe effortlessly interweaves the scientific, historic and mythological history of the area in an interesting narrative. This was the highlight of our 2019 tour of the Canadian Rockies, and a year later we're still talking about it.

We did a morning tour with Joe, who was approachable, engaging, funny and had a wealth of knowledge about indigenous culture and the local wildlife and ecosystem. We spent a good amount of time watching a black bear eating berries, and saw elk, an eagle, deer and whisky jacks, along with lots of beautiful scenery. Joe really made the effort to find as much wildlife as possible.

If there is one thing you do while in Jasper, it should be this tour. Yes the wildlife is amazing (among other things, we saw a Grizzly Bear and her two cubs) but the best thing about this tour is Joe. He is a great storyteller and even managed to keep the teenagers engaged.

We only found out about his AirBnB accommodation after we made our hotel booking but in the future I would try and stay with him.

This was a highlight of our trip and something that will stay with us for a long time.

We're fans of small business, especially when it comes to private and small groups tours. Anytime we're in a new area we try to book a tour early in the trip. We learn so much about the area we are visiting that it enhances the rest of our trip. We booked an evening wildlife tour the day we arrived and a Maligne Valley tour the next morning. Patti was excellent at providing info prior to our arrival. She even helped us estimate driving times and gave advice on what to pack for our trip to the Canadian Rockies. Her husband Joe led our wildlife tour. We spotted elk, deer, big horn sheep, moose, mountain goats and more. Joe tried so hard to find a bear for us that he extended the tour so he could try more spots. No bear, but ironically we spotted one on our own the next morning. Day two we did the Maligne Valley tour and learned so much about the Jasper area and Canadian Rockies. The advantage of going with a guide is they know how to avoid the giant crowds and tour buses that crowd Maligne Valley.
