We took the Icefield Parkways (Lake Louis to Jasper) years ago and close to the destination we had our closest encounter of mountain goats. They were three or more white mountain goats scattered on the cliff right beside the highway. Later I found out that it is one of the many attractions in the Parkway called Goat Lick. The mountain goats are licking for mineral which is rich in calcium and sulphate. It was quite fun to watch this born cliff climber to show off their skill. It is hard to miss unless you are the lone car in the parkway and driving very fast. If you are really lucky to be the only car on the road, watchout after you pass Sunwapta Falls inbound to Jasper. It should be around 17km after Sunwapta Falls parking lot. We have seen wild mountain goats in other parks but never like this close. – four stars -

Lovely to see the mountain goats so close. They were grazing by the roadside with young kids, we passed by here twice and were not disappointed to have photographic opportunities both times.

I have to admit that we completely missed this on our way to Jasper, but on our way back we slowed down our driving speed (hard to do with all the other cars who tailgate you constantly). But if you stop caring about the tailgaters, you can actually place your focus on the mountains and mountainsides--at first you might think--as we did--that it's snow you see scattered here and there. If you are patient enough, park your car, use binoculars, you will see that "the snowy patches" actually move...it's goats that have parked themselves all over the mountainside. You need to be patient, though. And quiet. Nothing scares animals away like the sound of humans.

I was really looking forward to seeing some goats but unfortunately when we got there was no sign of any.
There was no signs that we spotted identfying when you had got to the Goat lick so the best way of spotting it would be to use a mile by mile guide and work out where it is.

Stopped twice by here on our way to and from Jasper, but unfortunately, no luck seeing any goats. Wish I could have seen some but I guess it's just a hit and miss. Easy to make a quick stop.

This is right off the road and safe for small children. Even if you don’t see goats it’s a great view and no effort to try. It’s marked goats and glaciers now.

Our Brewster's 56 seater coach pulled in to side of the road somewhere before the Athabasca Falls stop after the driver spotted mountain goats by the road. This produced the perfect photo with Nanny and baby goat posing under their warning sign. A 5 star photo opportunity but a 3 star location, hence the 4 star rating.

A beautiful lookout! The views are stunning. The boardwalk is lovely. A great view of the glaciers! Nice clean outhouse bathrooms. Easy to get to off the highway.
No goats though. One star.

In my quest to see an elusive mountain goat up close, we stopped here twice. Sadly my quest will have to continue. Despite my disappointment it was well worth the stop, the views were fantastic.

Where *exactly* is this? Seems hard to find on google/google maps! Is there a pull-in?

Hi yes there is a pull in, just off the main Highway its on the map as Goats and Glaciers. It is well worth climbin up the grassy bank to see the river on the other side, it is not visible from the road.
