Overview
Spend 10 days exploring, adventuring and reconnecting with yourself and those on the river with you, 10 days that will be with you for the rest of your life!

This Journey is not solely focused on the time spent on the river; the shorter river days and long hours of sunlight allow for excursions from camp each afternoon before settling in for a campfire dinner under a star-filled sky. Two layover days also allow those who chose to attempt more vigorous hikes to take in the surrounding tundra and glaciers.

I went to the Icefields Center and asked for a ticket for the Glacier Tour. Bought 2 tickets, only later realized it was only a ticket for the Skywalk - not for a walk on the glacier as I wanted. This wasn't made clear when I bought the ticket, and when I went in person to ask for a refund they told me they weren't allowed to give refunds and I had to call their central office (866-606-6700). Called there, still in the Ice Fields Center, and they told me they couldn't give me a refund on the phone because we bought the ticket at the Icefields Center and so I would have to drive to Jasper or Banff (more then an hour away!) and no promises!! Since the ticket time slot would have passed by the time we would have gotten to Jasper we assumed they would still refuse to give us a refund and so decided to just use the tickets - what a scam! Overall thoughts (beyond the terrible customer service): The skywalk may be worth it for that high a price if you really love your selfies with dramatic backgrounds, but we found it very over-priced for what you got. The skywalk itself is nowhere near the glacier - though you can see some glaciers from there - frankly a misleading name! Our driver Hans was the best part - friendly and funny.

"Power of Nature" The Columbia Icefield is the largest icefield in North America's Rocky Mountains. It is a powerful, dynamic force, constantly shaping the regional landscape. It’s aura leaves everyone mystified by the geological marvel. Not only that, the beauty of the neighboring landscapes gets enhanced and people who visit it also feel elevated. THAT IS THE POWER OF NATURE.

As you driving and approaching the area you start driving slower and slower until you stop. The sun was not that strong and you witness a scenery only in the movies you see. The snow or if you call it 'the glacier' between the two high rocks you felt the sky is touching the ground and you are part of the scenery actually inside. We decided to revisit again the site as this time we decided to walk from the highway to the site. My age 73 did not stopped me decided to walk to the top. As you walk the wind is higher colder and very chilly, I was not able to keep the camera straight. Looking around as plain as its sound 'dry ground, ice, snow, rocky mountains' but owo what a view. Canada has so much to offer is up to us to discover.

This was an awesome experience, however afterwards I did wonder how much the tourists (us) were contributing to the melting of the Glacier we had just visited!!!!!! The center at the reception area is well placed and there are amenities in there although I think extremely busy. You board a bus here and this takes you to the impressively large vehicles that take you onto the Athabasca Glacier. It is on this bus that your driver becomes your tour guide. Ours was full of fun and very skilled at driving thank goodness. He was overflowing with knowledge which he imparted in a jovial interesting and engaging way. Great Chap. Once on the Glacier the views were breathtaking when you considered what you were standing on, how old the ice was and how powerful it was to create such a gash on the solid rock. Beside which look at the Rockies around you and we were aware of how small and insignificant we are, we were humbled. Awesome.

Hello toddlerpants, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review! I am delighted to hear that you had a wonderful experience with us. Climate change is a global issue and not simply localized to glaciers in the mountains. Not to worry, over the past years. Our way of fighting climate change was to upgrade our vehicles with state-of-the-art engines that will emit 1 metric tonne less CO2 then an average car does in one year. We are also fighting climate change by educating our guests about the importance of that fight for future generations. One thing this place does is make you feel humbled, and grounded in a very special and memorizing way. Once again, thank you for taking the time, and we hope to welcome you back soon! Regards, Kate Culos Front Office & Logistics Manager Columbia Icefield Adventure

This was a great tour for my husband and I. The extra precautions taken due to Covid were well thought out and communicated. It was efficient to load the busses. Our driver, Michael, was very informative, funny and personable. There are very strict safety protocols taken to ensure the ice crawlers are safe for the driver and passengers. The Icefield was so neat to be on! The crystal blue colour on the glacier is quite the site to see. The skywalk is a very unique experience...but is way higher than I expected...definitely makes your heart race!
