This visitor center is very large to accommodate all the tour groups and buses that come through the Icefields Parkway. It was very crowded when we were there, as many guided tours and activities leave from/meet at the center. Beautiful view of the Athabasca Glacier,...More

We made a quick stop at the Glacier Discovery Center on our way to the Ice Field. We had just enough time to view the exceptional IMAX movie downstairs, explaining the the geology and history of the region, well worth a stop especially since our...More

I didn't think that expecting to find a good hot chocolate at a place right in front of a glacier would be too much to ask. But for my disappointment no good hot chocolate is served here (although pricey).

LARGE VISITOR CENTER WITH FREE PARKING The Icefield Discovery Centre was a welcome respite after the drive from Lake Louise, especially since it had started to snow quite a bit. Park in the free lot and make your way up the stairs into the Discovery...More

We were a bit unlucky since the glacier was closed due to strong high winds with snowy conditions. However, we made it to the bottom of the glacier and had a great walk around. We also went to the Glacier Skywalk which is a little...More

Visitor center is hugely lacking in educational resources. But has plenty of stuff to sell you in their two restaurants, gift shop, and disney-like price-gouging tourist attractions.

This is the place to stop for the glacier and skywalk attractions but oh so busy. The centre itself was very good showing the history of the glacier and has good facilities. It was very busy and booking a suitable time for the skywalk and...More

The discovery centre is where you buy your tickets to go out on the glacier, or the skywalk. This is where you will find a large gift shop, restaurants, outdoor seating, information boards about the glaciers, and some of the only flush toilets between Lake...More

Questions & Answers
Hi, we have planned a trip to Calgary and staying in a vacation home, we have a car rental for the week. We plan to go Banff, Lake Lousie and up to Columbia Icefield and visit some of the sites along the Icefields Parkway (highway 93). We will have to return the same day back to Calgary. We know it will be a long day. We will leave early 6:00 AM. Do you think it would be better to drive straight to Columbia ice field and then enjoy the sites on the way back, or stop at some of the sites on the way and just get to Icefield when we get there before closing time. What do you think estimated day will be and being able to enjoy what there is to stop and see along the way. I know there will be plenty of traffic. If we didn't have a home rented we could drive one day and stay and come back the next. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Do either, depending on the line-up at the registration centre, which could be huge. If you go to Jasper first get your tickets there, in advance, for your next day at the IceFields. The Tourist Info Centre in Jasper will... More
