I love the high speed light rail lines in BC. Flying from airport terminal to cruise ship terminal that way is fantastic, sights along the route are worth the price, and speed and flow are terrific. Edmontons LRT system may have all of that one day, but except for the superb train cars, the LRT is only fantastic some of the time. Stations are clean and modern, but the route to NAIT school inexplicaly crosses very busy 111th Avenue - at street level, causing long delays which infuriates drivers and slows the train, delaying students. Not smart. But for a rush from the South side to center-city for work, shopping, seeing hockey, or for a quick way to the university or the Royal Alexandra hospital, our LRT is already A+. To Mill Woods in the Southeast? Coming soon. To the airport? Maybe in this century. To the western suburbs? Maybe one day.
It's a very operation, a cash-losing system dogged by software and hardware problems since the start. But the promise is safee, clean, fast alternatives to buses and cars, and most Edmontonians back that 100%. Enjoy the LRT as it exists, Just don't think Vancouver or Calgary, not yet nor any time soon unless oil makes us weakthy again..

This photo is of an Edmonton Transit Bus, not the light Rail Transit. A great part of the city roads are a major disaster due to new LRT lines being constructed. The lines that are in use are well utilized and can get you to downtown and the U of A in no time at all. There have been some security issues at some stations. Completion of the new lines may take up to five years, so a great deal of patience is needed when driving through the affected areas. Will be a super service when completed!

Edmonton is a big city, As we all know there is not enough LRT "trains" running around the city. by that I mean that the routes of the trains don't take them to every corner of the city....yet. Edmonton has made significant progress in expanding its rail system throughout the city, but there is a long way to go. Millwoods and all of west Edmonton still remain untouched. I understand there are plans for both lines in the years to come.
Anyhow, the Lrt is great for gettin around downtown. good to go to the university or southgate mall. Century park to nait is pretty good accomplishment. Good work guys.

Absolutely garbage. This is the worst transit system in the western world. People shooting up next to you while the bus driver smokes... nothing is ever on time if it even ever shows up and it's over priced. I can literally walk faster than 90% of the routes

After getting off the plane around 430 I waited for nearly an hour for a bus to arrive. When I boarded the bus I discovered that only cash is an unacceptable for of payment. (You read that right.) The driver told me that I could get cash at an ATM machine in the airpot so I did. But while walking back towards the bus stop, the bus took off. I was left waiting another 30 minutes. As an outsider to Edmonton this welcome left me with a very chilly impression. I'm left baffled by how such a major Canadian city could have such a poor public transit from the airport to the city.

While certain legs of the LRT are running well, the overall system leaves much to be desired. The all too many level crossings create traffic delays not tolerated in other cities.
So many other cities offer a better system, it makes you wonder why Edmonton has not got it right - even yet, despite the millions spent on it. But it is a very cost effective and efficient way to go downtown.

I AM VERY ASHAMED TO HAVE THE COST OF LIGHT RAIL AND TRANSIT BE THE CITY OF EDMONTON PADS THEIR WALLETS. $3.25 for an adult or youth and under 5 free. This is for 90 minutes so expect to pay twice if you are going anywhere. You can get bulk pas a bit cheaper at stores for youth 6 to 18; however still unreasonable. Monthly passes are 89 dollars for adult and youth. CITY OF EDMONTON YOU SADDEN ME HOW YOU BLEED EDMONTONIAN'S DRY. WE ARE A COLD AND VERY LENGTHY CITY SO WALKING PLACES IS USUALLY PRETTY LIMITING!! Guess if the CITY OF EDMONTON can make a buck and have NO ONE to monitor them! THEY WILL. IF IT WAS MORE REASONABLY PRICED THEN YES, not always clean; however needed. I know me and my son would use it more especially with our slippery roads in winter to the U of A observatory which is a great evening activity on Thursday nights. For me to far to drive in the dark so my son misses out as 13 dollars to go out for a few hours is too much!!Ps have to drive to LRT as it is a 5 minute walk to bus stop and the bus takes 20 to 40 minutes to get to the LRT int he winter??? Not walkable to LRT in winter

Many people wouldn't know about the LRT, it is well disguised in the city centre but outside you can get as far as the opera and NAIT and two major hospitals

The LRT is good for getting you north and south in Edmonton and the new Metro Line gives a branch route to NAIT which is NW of downtown. Coupled with the transit centres co-located with some of the LRT stations one can get around quickly. The ETS also has a airport service from the southernmost station at Century Park called 747 that costs an additional $5 or two tickets. It runs every hour (rush hours 30 mins) that gets your to the airport in 25 mins from Century Park. If I pick my timings right I can make it to the airport in less than an hour from downtown for the price of three tickets ($7.20)

The Edmonton Light Rail Transit (LRT) system isn't very extensive, it essentially runs north-south down the centre of the city, but if it goes to where you're going it is a very efficient way to get around and at a decent price ($3.20 Adult).
You can buy a book of ten tickets for $24 at many businesses (230 locations).
The tickets last for 90 minutes after they are validated.
Edmonton also has an extensive bus system that goes nearly everywhere. To make matters even better your LRT ticket can be used to transfer to a bus for no additional fare (special routes like the one to the airport require additional fare). Actually it works both ways, bus tickets can be used on the LRT as well – their ticketing is very convenient.
If you're going to be in Edmonton for a number of days or if your are going to be making many trips in the same day there are a variety of passes which reduce your fare even more.
I only wish the LRT covered more area of the city. They are trying to expand the system however after a recent engineering/planning fiasco with the latest extension they've gone back to the drawing board and are trying to come up with a more effective way of managing large transportation projects. Let's hope, they get back on track and expand out east and west.
For the area it covers it's a wonderful system.
