A large park along the river. Many people catching rays and lots of picnics happening. A triathlon is happening this weekend so
Most of the open areas were full of tents. Had a nice walk but would have enjoyed it more on a bicycle

Nice park to play frisbee, bring a bbq. Reserve a bbq spot with the city on Edmonton website. Can run around the road (about 2.5Km), many also bike along the trails. Very pretty. Many festivals during the summer, most do not allow dogs (except ones especially for dogs). Check ahead.

The winter skating areas, or the option for a hockey game under the bright blue Alberta sky are inviting..The options to park and start walking, over bridges and onto trails, encourage the love of the outdoors...

Summer or winter, this is a great place to visit!
There are several festivals during the summer.
In the winter there is a skating pond maintained around a facility providing snacks and bathrooms.

Park is located off the Groat Road just after the Groat Bridge and it’s easy accessible by any type of vehicle or if you’re walking. I’ve visited Hawrelak Park few times but I never realized that it has that “park” part with a lake and pavilion. Lake area is made in typical English park style with walking trails, lots if benches and animals (birds mostly), that are freely walking around. I truly enjoyed this newly discovered part as I always thought that this park is used by people who are barbecuing or who are attending one of many festivals held there. Park is next to the river and while walking around, one will eventually come to the bridge across North Saskatchewan River towards Edmonton Zoo. I recommend this park for spending some amazing time with your friends or family, or even if you’re by yourself if you would like to spend some of your time in Edmonton but not in Edmonton...

We had a picnic last Saturday (July 16, 2016) with the whole family and our two lovely grandkids. The scenery was nice, the weather was good, and the air seems fine when I surveyed the place.

Things quickly changed after the first mosquito bite, followed by another one and another. My wife kept fanning and warding off the pesky bugs (insects) away from our grandchildren. Well, there's no escaping them for sure.

We walked and run around with the grandkids carefully because we found the place littered with poop/feces and birds droppings. For the next hour or so, we have to do the poop dance and the skipping-poop exercise.
In summary, we went home with stinky shoes and sore red skin that we are still nursing up to now (especially our grandkids). I felt really sorry for them.

Hopefully, and I pray, those mosquitos were not West Nile virus carriers. The City Health of Edmonton should conduct an inspection and perhaps, do some corrective actions.

Park is large and spacious. Plenty of picnic spots. Each August long weekend the park hosts Heritage Days. A celebration of the ethnic diversity found in the City of Edmonton. The lake has been cleaned and deepened. Spring and fall times bring hosts of migratory ducks and geese. The Edmonton Symphony performs under the large 'tent'. Lots of parking, lots of grass space, great for intimate picnics to large family gatherings.
