This park is a hidden gem in Edmonton. I only discovered it this past summer and fell in love with it! It has everything you could ask for. Quiet space, water, public restrooms and more!

Beautiful park, well maintained, with walking trails and a nice small lake. The water birds enjoy the lake, and I enjoy the birds

Nice park to play frisbee, bring a bbq. Reserve a bbq spot with the city on Edmonton website. Can run around the road (about 2.5Km), many also bike along the trails. Very pretty. Many festivals during the summer, most do not allow dogs (except ones especially for dogs). Check ahead.

The winter skating areas, or the option for a hockey game under the bright blue Alberta sky are inviting..The options to park and start walking, over bridges and onto trails, encourage the love of the outdoors...

Every winter, Edmonton’s William Hawrelak Park hosts an ice castle display. The display is stunningly beautiful! Dress warmly and plan to stay at least an hour - more if you want to take lots of pictures. Be sure to wear good footwear as it’s quite slippery inside. The ice is blue and white, transparent in places and magical when it is lit up with lights which change colour. There are caves and tunnels, as well as ice slides and this year there is an ice fountain and a large ice sculpture of flowers. I am describing the 2020 display - the design changes somewhat each year. The Ice Castles open in January and remain open ( weather permitting) until early March. After touring the Ice Castles you can walk the park trails or skate on the large outdoor skating rinks. The smaller one allows hockey sticks and pucks while the larger one is reserved for skating only.

Summer or winter, this is a great place to visit!
There are several festivals during the summer.
In the winter there is a skating pond maintained around a facility providing snacks and bathrooms.

Every year we attend the Heritage Days Festival here. It's an event to sample delicious food, see creative performances, and celebrate Canada’s multiculturalism. You can enjoy the tastes, smells, sights and sounds from 100 countries and cultures at 73 outdoor pavilions. Free entertainment on more than 25 stages throughout Hawrelak Park as well.
We have also attended other festivities here. In the winter they always have the ice castle.
A HUGE park to bring the family and spend the day too. There are picnic tables and grill pits for day picnics.

I will be traveling through Edmonton with a motorhome pulling a car. Would this be a good place to park the MH for the day and use the car to explore the city?

Not necessarily, as answered elsewhere - not a campground and there would not be any "hook-up" services. It is a city-administered day park attached to a private golf course (Mayfair). If the plan is simply to park, abandon the MH for a few hours while motoring in the near environs -- might get away with that. I don't know of any ordinances prohibiting such a use of the free parking areas that do exist throughout the traffic loop. Depending on the size of the MH, could be a challenge finding space, since the one large parking area is really designed for moderate sized passenger cars (sedans, etc.) -- and what is being parked there now is more along the lines of much larger SUVs and monster trucks. On second thought, maybe it will fit right in...

Are dogs welcome?
Salman S

Dogs and pets are welcome but have to remain on the leash. There is an off-leach area to the south of the park.
Please google "Edmonton Off Leash" for a map of off-leash locations in Edmonton.

Hi, we are planning to attend the Rock and Roll Festival on August 14th. Any suggestions of near by parking at a decent rate? We are staying at Days Inn South. Thank you!

I seldom pay to park in Edmonton. I typically park south of the zoo for free and then walk across the N Sask river via the foot bridge that comes out at Hawrelak Park. For someone out of town it might be confusing, and coming from the south side it is a long drive to the zoo.

The whole family fun aspect at the park is definitely there. The ice is cleared but bumpy.
