Fort Calgary was founded in 1875 when the NWMP crossed the Bow River and laid the foundations for Calgary at the place where the Bow meets the Elbow River. Today, Fort Calgary’s interpretive centre allows you to explore the rich heritage of Calgary and the RCMP. The large outdoor park area is a great way to enjoy the river landscape, and offers unique views of downtown Calgary. Fort Calgary offers meeting and event spaces, as well as special events on most holidays. Open from 9 am – 5 pm daily, all year round.

I love learning about our beloved and proud RCMP along with all the history. Fort Calgary was the beginning of Calgary itself. That alone is really cool. Lots of old pieces and things to see was a lot of fun. Got to dress up like a Mountie which was lots of fun too. Great day staff was really friendly! Lots... More

This place is very well put together. A very informative place on the history of Calgary with very humble beginnings. Now a city with a thriving center.

Fort Calgary had a lot more than I thought it would- great displays and well done - makes learning history fun. We attended a special event there- period piece dinner theatre- watch out for events

My colleagues organized a lunch and tour to break up a full day meeting while on business trip to Calgary. The food was excellent and tour guide especially interesting and informative.

If you love history then it is indeed worth your time! If you're looking to be wowed by fancy multimedia displays and don't care to take the time to read lengthy historical facts, then don't bother! I found all the exhibits and the information presented quite interesting and very informative. The layout of the exhibits within the fort was well... More

We spent a couple of hours visiting the museum which was very informative of the development of Calgary. However, I was expecting there to be a fort or at least a replica on the site given its name and was disappointed that there isn't one. Maybe I had false expectations and it is still worth a visit.

Fort Calgary is the location of the first settlement in Calgary in the 19th century, basically where Calgary started. There are well presented and very interesting exhibits inside showing a mock up original railway station, RCMP barracks, shops & homes of the time and much more. Well worth a visit and good value.

Our family of three got through the museum in an hour quite easily. We are usually very good at maximizing opportunities at places but overall it is quite small and not a lot to do. There is a lot of reading which meant that the 13 year old was not so interested in the museum at all. We would have... More

We recently attended a wedding at Fort Calgary, and it was simply amazing. The atmosphere, the food and the service was top notch. Amazing setting down by the river. Plus we had free access to the museum before and after the ceremony which was amazing. We got to learn how Calgary became a city back in 1894 and its progression... More

Most of the story is told through posts which use social media formats (so & so posted something & someone else liked or commented). I'm not sure this is the most appropriate way but it does tell the story for the most part. There were a few gaps however (I'm still not sure what happened the buffalo?!) On the whole... More
