This might have been my favorite trail during our Banff stay. We arrived on the first tuesday in October. We had no problem getting a parking spot as there was a slight drizzle that day so it was not too busy. The trail is well marked. The first 2k is the trail along the Lake Louise shoreline. The next section is in the forest along the river. You exit the woods and then start heading up to the Teahouse. Elevation is slow and steady. At the Teahouse, my husband went all the way to the viewpoint (very windy!) while I only went ⅓ of the way. We had hot drinks at the Teahouse and a nice chat with the owner before heading back. There is one short section where the trail is alongside a cliff but you can avoid it by taking the trail the horses use - the split is not obvious on the way there but it’s signed on the way back. I loved how the trail had different sections, each of which was scenic in their own way. Everything was well marked.

We've had limited hiking experiences and I thought our hikes in Oahu with ocean views was amazing, but this hike surpasses anything we have experienced. The bar is now set very high. Going uphill, the mountains and glaciers are so amazing. Going downhill, the alpine and Lake Louise is spectacular. We had a 5 hour round trip from the Fairmont and were able to enjoy dinner there afterwards. Moderately busy, most people were respectful and practiced physical distancing as much as possible. All my future hikes will be compared to this one. Parking is plentiful and adequate, but fortunately not all those people were on the trail. Trek to the outlook past the tea house is an hour round trip and well worthwhile. Physical fitness is a definite benefit to enjoy this hike.

Come early for this hike to avoid crowds. Moderate hike to the lookout for the Glacier. Tea house has open for snacks and drinks but need cash. Bring small garbage bag as you need to carry out your garbage. Great photo ops along the way.

This was a highlight for my husband & I! I had hiked this trip years ago, and wanted the Horseback experience this time. Our guide (Ariana?) was fabulous - guided us thru some tricky ascents. Amazing views! We got stopped by so many hikers on the way who said they would have chosen the horseback option rather than hiking the 15km round trip (which is also great if you have 'good knees'). Stables are 3 min. walk from Chateau Lake Louise, so very convenient. And 15% off price right now during COVID.

we've done this hike at various times of the year and it is always different. This time, in July, we still had to pass over a small ice area but had a glorious warm walk. There are three more significant uphills and a great view of the hanging glaciers all around - none broke off this time. Can't wait to go back As an aside the parking at Lake Louise has been severely restricted. We were at the parking area at 815 and the first level of the parking lot was almost full and when we got back (1230ish) they had been turning cars away
