Took the 2hr Sundance Loop Trail yesterday with our two kids aged 9 amd 12. Nicole was our guide and she was amazing! My youngest stayed at the front and they paired us all with very friendly horses. It was our first time riding and it was great. The views of the Bow River and mountain backdrops were gorgeous. As we ventured up the mountain and through the forest, it started to get chilly and even had a bit of rain. Nicole was super kind and offered my son her jacket. I was sooo impressed - she was amazing. The ride is slow, only walking, but perfect for us since it was our first time and with kids. If youre looking for something faster or more exciting then this isnt for you. But if youre like us and appreciate the views, experience something new, and love horses - then this is perfect. Thank you Banff Trail Riders and Nicole for making this an unforgettable experience!

Overall an enjoyable experience. A bit pricey, and not something you would do that often. They had really good COVID protocols in place, everything seemed cleaned and sanitized. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the sleigh ride was quite enjoyable.

Our family booked the half hour wagon ride in Banff, and are really wishing we had done the full hour! What an amazing time! Our host Mike was absolutely perfect, so engaging and good with the children. He let them meet Pat the horse and had fantastic stories and insights on the town. If you are lucky enough to have him as your guide the day will be unforgettable. Booking was easy and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

My girlfriend and i did the 2 hour Sundance tour, and we both strongly feel it was a rip off. People on walking trails beside us were nearly passing us as we went along , and we definitely never trotted. The guide in the front was talkative, however there was 7 of us walking in a tight line (1guide , 6 clients) , I was 3ed from the back and i had to strain to hear anything that was said , and i relayed things i found kinda neat to the ladies behind me cause they couldn’t hear a thing the whole time. Definitely not worth 130$ per person, I recommend walking/biking the trail on your own however there are many more beautiful trails i would recommend over that one.
The guide mentioned that hikers and bikers do not like horses being in the park , and after this tour i would say there is no need for them as they add nothing to the experience of the beautiful Banff National Park.

We appreciate your comments. We never advertise that you Trott on our rides as this is a safety concern all our rides are at a walking pace. Im sorry you found them slow.

We booked a one hour ride for four people, however they didnt even have enough horses for us. The staff was rude, had a bad attitude and BULLIED my friend about his weight and his culture. She didn’t even apologies for her mistake. She refunded us the wrong amount of money. I over heard the ladies in the front talking about my friends traditional Indian turban. Telling him he couldn’t have bags with him on a horse and she laughed when he explained to her what a turban was. Karen’s should not be working in customer service.

I'm planning to go to Banff from Dec 13 to 17, 2020. I clicked on a Facebook ad and booked a sleigh ride for 40% off. I was conacted on Dec 10 that it was cancelled due to not having enough snow in Banff. Thr next available date is Dec 18 when I will no longer be in Banff... The company has refused my refund and will only give me credit. The problem is that I may never use it because I may not be back to Banff for years!! They just took my money and I have nothing to show for it. This is not tourist friendly.

Thank you for your comments and we understand your frustration. There is always a risk booking an activity on opening week when mother nature plays a huge part of the execution. We did receive snow but a large amount of rain also fell this week causing conditions to be not ideal for the sleighs. The promotion applied was for 40% off the sleigh ride booked. The terms of this promotion is that it is non-refundable but can be used on another date with a large booking window of Dec -March. It is also fully transferable to another person if you wish as well. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a refund due to us being transparent about the bookings terms at the time of purchase. We understand that you may not be able to return to Banff but you chose to apply the promotion knowing it was non-refundable and only transferable to another date. Some customers opted to not apply the promotion for greater flexibility of refund in the event needed. Our refundable and non refundable options were both available at the time of booking so customers could choose which option they felt most comfortable with. The amount paid is fully transferable to another Banff Trail riders activity but the 40% promotional discount would not apply to the new product. If you are still in town, we can also transfer the amount paid to a tour or activity offered by our sister company, Discover Banff Tours. Please contact us on 1-800-661-8352 if you would like to pursue this option.

We’d booked a ride for my aunts surprise 60th birthday. The traffic coming into Banff was backed up two hours, and because my aunt arrived 3 minutes late, they wouldn’t let them ride and refused a refund. I never write bad reviews, but this was genuinely atrocious service, and it’s pretty clear they believe Banff gets enough tourists from other countries to get by. Don’t fall for it. Spend your money elsewhere.

We appreciate your comments, however we can not hold up the rest of a group if you arrive late. Unfortunately we were also sold out of later rides so could not reschedule.

It is our first time in Canada and so me and my partner decided to make the most of it and include horseback riding trip. We carefully read all the reviews and have chosen Banff riders as the majority of the Tripadvisor reviews were good.

Upon the arrival, we were asked to sign a waiver in case of accidents on the ride. We asked if we could bring the camera which was both confirmed AND encouraged by the responsible shift leader. We were delighted.

Then an employee prepared the horse for each one of us and we were asked to sit on it. The moment my partner was helped on the horse, the horse started yanking and tried to throw him off. It looked absolutely terrifying and the most frightening thing was that the employee, who was in charge of my partner's horse, did NOTHING. She was in no way managing the situation, not trying to catch or calm the horse jumping around, she just stood there lost for what to do.

My partner then fell of the horse. I stopped breathing as I thought he surely broke his neck or back. He hit the ground hard but by reflex he rolled quickly to the side, else the horse would have crushed him with the hooves.

Thank God, my partner is alive, bruised but in one piece. However, our camera worth over €2000 bought especially for the trip got smashed into pieces.

The employee who was in charge of my partner's horse, peeped an apology that it was her first day on the job and that she did not know what to do in the situation like this. You can imagine our shock that a trainee is UNSUPERVISED in charge of handling a horse with a customer on it and when a dangerous situation arises, she is not competent to deal with it. As there was no foreman present and the more experienced employee was busy with my horse and was not supervising the trainee. Initially this was stated by all involved but after escalating to the management the owner mr. Welsh explained that my partner was to blame as the reigns were pulled to hard. Nothing more than a made up lie which once more shows a lack of owning up to responsibility.

We have enquired about the damages to our camera - we just arrived to Canada from The Netherlands and wanted to take pictures as memories of our trip. The only answer given was: 'you have signed a waiver and we cannot be responsible for the behavior of our horses or staff'- although, this is clearly a case of gross negligence, rather than an inherent risk of getting on a horse. The fact that Banff riders either ignore or choose not to acknowledge the difference between inherent risk and their own gross negligence, makes me believe that they either do not understand or do not take safety measures seriously enough and as such should not be licensed for running business where people's safety is involved.

Legally the company owes the duty of care. The fact that a waiver is signed is for instances when instructions are not followed by the customers and as a result, an accident happens. This was not the case. Firstly, no instructions were yet even given at the stage when the accident occurred. At that stage the employee who is getting the horse ready and helping on the horse is responsible and clearly should be in charge of the horse. As health and safety regulations apply, you may rightly assume that the employee knows what they are doing, have been properly trained for all possible situations and are competent and experienced to deal with them.

The said waiver that is signed should only ever be valid AFTER instructions how to control your horse are given (didn't happen yet at that stage) AND after your trip has started, ie. you leave the gate, are safely on your horse and driving off - supervised by the employees - for your ride.

It is unacceptable that a company who is organising horse rides with people ignores health and safety regulations and assumes their own negligence is covered by a waiver they ask you to sign.

We are extremely shocked, disappointed and want to warn future potential customers of Banff Trail riders of the company's unprofessional and unsafe practices. As in their views, once you sign a waiver, you are on your own.

Im sorry that you broke your Camera it was an unfortunate accident and as I already explained to you via email is not our fault. You mention trainees as if they are not experienced with horses. All our staff are very experienced with horses. Yes we do have new staff but that does not make them inexperienced. We have numerous staff assisting customers to get on their horses. In this case when you got on the horse your jerked back on the reins and this caused the horse to rear up. You fell off the horse at this time and your camera broke. You also got back on the horse and completed the ride. Im sorry you broke your camera, but we are not responsible. I do suggest you contact your insurance company. This post is the same as your partners post "Lowlight of my visit to Canada" and against Trip Advisor guidelines to post multiple posts.

Horseback Riding – Getting Back in the Saddle.

“It’s like riding a bicycle; I will be galloping away from you before you know it!” Ah false confidence, the making of a man and eventually his downfall. As my girlfriend and I cruised up to the Sundance Canyon trail in Banff, I bragged about my former child career as a show jumper. In truth, I have ridden maybe five times and that was a long time ago. As soon as I met my horse for the day (the aptly named Bucky), I truly believed he saw an advantage to show me up!

We booked through [--] and the ride was simply stunning. The 50 per cent of the time that I wasn’t arguing boisterously with old Bucky, the sights were breathtaking. You really feel like Clint Eastwood (albeit slightly less talented and good looking) as you trot around Sundance Canyon. Depending on your experience, you can take the horse for a canter or gallop if confidence is with you. I stuck with the walk.

The ride goes for an hour. Maybe I’m not as flexible as I used to be but the thighs were happy to return to their parallel position. The body was even happier with the BBQ that follows the ride. The friendly crew pulled no punches with the feed either, fresh steak, homemade baked beans and baked potatoes, everything a cowboy needs. There are all sorts of games to play at the BBQ site where you can try to reclaim some of the respect lost from the ride. Despite my difficulties, it was an excellent day and one that I would love to try again.

Pre-paid for horse back riding for 12 people. Charge was around $2,000 US dollars. Our excursion was a 4 hour horse ride and a chuck wagon type cowboy dinner. We arrived at 4:52 8 minutes early, and we were told we needed to arrive 15 minutes early and because we were not there at 4:45 our trip was cancelled. The horses were all saddled up but they refused to let us go. They said it would take too long to sign a release form and get weighed in. Makes no sense whatsoever, but I guess they figured they could catch us on a technicality. All of the staff was just sitting on around and talking. They sent them home early and didn't have to pay them their hourly rate, and kept our money. The refused to refund us any of our money. If I lived in Canada, which I don't, I'd sue these crooks. Maybe I still will. Haven't decided, but I figure there is some Canadian protection for this type of behavior, or lack of any ability to seek recourse. DO NOT PRE-PAY FOR ANY EXCURSIONS with these charlatans.
