Fun experience at the top of Sulphur Mountain
The Banff gondola takes you up to Sulphur mountain in Banff where you can see the entire area (town and surrounding mountains). There's an interpretive area for kids to interact with and learn about the wildlife in the area. A theater with a short 10min movie helps to break up the time. There are 3 restaurants (make sure you make rsvp if you plan to dine), interactive interpretive exhibits for kids, a multi-sensory theatre, a breathtaking 360-degree rooftop observation deck and a gift shop. The gondola ride is enclosed and takes about 8 minutes from the bottom to the top. There is a boardwalk from the main building that takes you to another lookout point where you can see another perspective of the area. All in all, I would recommend doing this if you want to see a different perspective of Banff, the Bow River valley and surrounding mountains.
Hi Steve N, Thank you so much for taking the time to review. Glad to hear that you recommend the experience and the views! We hope to welcome you back to the Gondola again soon, Warmest regards, Gandi

    A must do in Banff!
Stunning views of the mountains! The buffet restaurant which offers food and drinks is reasonably priced. The food and service are good and the view while you dine will make you linger. Make reservations before going and request a table by the window. Because the site is one of the most popular in Banff, there is a line to get the day tickets to get on the lifts even if you have paid for advanced reservations online. Come half an hour early!
Hi Grace D, Thank you so much for the review and glad to hear that you had a good time at the Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen. We hope to welcome you back to the Gondola again soon, Warmest regards, Gandi

Nice boardwalk and views, should have better cancelation policy
The views would have been amazing on a clear day. The facilities are clean and overall well-maintained. They try to accommodate everyone with an easy boardwalk with short sections of steps and lots of seating and garbage bins. Those who cannot walk can take the elevator to the rooftop to enjoy the views. There are nice chairs. There is a section of trail off the boardwalk that is not railed. Watch out if you get off the boardwalk. However, considering how limited tickets are shown on the website, most likely you need to book the tickets a few days in advance (especially if you want to take advantage of the family deal opened for first two hours of each day). But air quality warning can happen any day and it may get really hazy and cloud-overed up there. Cancelation policy is 48 hrs in advance. They should have a better cancelation policy. Tickets are expensive and spending that money to not able to see the views would be crazy.

    Great activity in Banff
As this was our 1st visit to Canada and the Banff national park we wanted to experience as much as possible. This did not disappoint. We arrived slightly early but they had an area under cover to wait. There was a small line but it was constantly moving. The ride was smooth and we felt safe. The scenery was amazing. My only concern was there was a place to walk down the mountain with a sheer drop and no safety fencing.
Hi ethelneerod, Thanks for your review and very glad to hear you had a good experience and that you found the scenery amazing. Thank you for the feedback and we hope to see you back at the Gondola again soon. Warmest regards, Gandi

    Great way to see Banff
Well organized for upload and download times. Didn't have to wait too long which was nice. Great Coffee shop at summit with a wide varieties of coffee, hot cocoa and snacks. Great alternative to the pricier restaurants.

    Worth to Visit
Amazing view t the top of Gondola Sulphur Mountain. Ticketing and the gondola ride staff are nice and helpful. We also eat at the Northern Light restaurant and what a lovely view as we are seated by the window. Food is great and variety of choices . We have fantastic visit at the Banff Gondola. Cheers.
Hey ChristiancW9383FL Thanks for your great words. Delighted to hear you had an overall pleasant experience with us and at one of our two restaurants while enjoying the gorgeous 360 views. Have a lovely day. Warm regards, Gandi

    Conditions out of control
Sales and ride staff (top & bottom of gondola) were excellent, quick & efficient; exhibits were excellent- extremely informative. However, smoke from fires reduced visibility to near zero this making our experience less than ideal. It was obvious, however, that everyone was having a good time and making the best of an unpleasant situation. We would love to try to attend another time.
Hey jshechyer47, Thanks for your review. Sorry to hear your views/experience was impacted by the devastating bushfires going on around B.C and Alberta at the moment. However, pleased to hear you made the most of the situation and enjoyed the facility's we have on offer up the top such as the informative exhibits and interactive centre. We hope to see you back soon, have a good day. Warm regards, Gandi

    great
As the Canada first national park and the flagship of the nation’s park system, we enjoyed its rocky mountain peaks, crystal lakes and fantastic adventures. We took the gondola to the top of the mountain, overlooking the natural scenery, even the words could not describe how breathtaking it was. What the most important thing is that we get closer to the nature, and we realize we are nobody to the whole nature. The only thing we can do is to respect and protect.
Hi brendabc812, Thank you for taking the time to review. We are so pleased to hear that you had such a meaningful experience with us and enjoyed being in nature. We hope to welcome you back soon. Warmest regards, Gandi

    Breathtaking Scenery
Being able to see the Rockies from above is a must see. The Gondola may look a bit scary but it is not. Very safe, once you start the scenic ride, all nervousness is gone.Absolutely breathtaking! Only thing I would do differently is to book tickets directly from Banff Gondola. We did not have a great experience booking through the ticket agent, Pursuit.
Hi TAD0466, Thank you so much for taking the time to review. We are so pleased to hear that you felt safe on the ride and would recommend it to others. We hope to welcome you back some time soon. Warmest regards, Gandi

    What a view!
Had a great time seeing the valley from the top of Sulphur Mountain! We hiked up to the Cosmic Ray Station, watched a storm sweep through the valley, got wet, got hailed on - and loved every minute of it! When we got to the buffet, the place was only 1/4 full - apparently a lot of people cancel their reservations if there is bad weather. Their loss! The food and service was fantastic!
Hi GordZaroski, Thank you so much for taking the time to review. We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed the varied mountain weather!! And glad the food and staff at Northern Lights was so good. We hope to welcome you back some time soon. Warmest regards, Gandi

We went up Sulphur Mountain on the gondola and it was stunning! The price is rather high at $60pp, but it was completely worth it. I would definitely recommend checking the weather and going on a clear day, as I think that is what made it so amazing.

There is a boardwalk up there which you can walk along, all the way to the top of the mountain which is great. The observation deck is lovely too, and there is a choice of two restaurants, with a gift shop and a small museum.

We had some food at the northern lights cafe, it was a buffet and you can buy this in advance. I would recommend doing this if you’re up there and fancy some food! There was a great selection and you could have as much as you’d like, plus soft drinks, teas and coffees for $27!

The views here at the top are absolutely breathtaking, which definitely makes it worth the price of admission. There was a lot to do at the top of the summit: from the boardwalk and hike out to the old weather station, to the interactive displays and observation deck. The only downside right now was that the restaurant was closed (not sure if that's seasonal or due to covid). The bottom of the gondola has a Starbucks, which was good as far as Starbucks goes, and they let you take your drinks up on the gondola to the top. The ride up & down was fairly quick, about 8 minutes, and filled with beautiful views. I would definitely recommend taking gravol ahead of time if you get motion sickness like I do however.

We booked a meal at the restaurant on the top of the mountain and used the gondola to ascend. The actual cars were much smaller than we expected, sitting 4 comfortably, but 6 at a squeeze. Oddly there was no heating or lighting, which when it was -10 outside was quite surprising - however they did supply blankets. The latter point about no lights only became an issue on the way back down in the dark, which although atmospheric, made it quite scary for the kids whom didn’t like it at all for such a lengthy ride. As our ride ticket was included in the meal price I can’t tell you what it would costs to ride up individually, but the view from the top was spectacular- but bitter. I’m sure it would be more enjoyable in the summer. Overall, it’s impressive, but would have been more enjoyable if they had maybe installed some low voltage strip lights for nighttime trips. As for the cold, just dress warm!

Hi Evalu8, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we really appreciate it. We are so sorry your kids found the ride down scary without the lights ,we will be sure to relay this information to the relevant department for future guests. The weather can be quite bitter in Banff in the Winter so we would always suggest layering up for the journey, especially if you want to do the boardwalk at the summit as well. We hope you enjoyed your time with us and thanks again for your feedback. Matt

The view and experience is nice actually. But for a large group which want to go up and down together, the ticketing and appointment system is terrible. When you buy tickets, it is extremely unfriendly for large groups. When you choose your down-load time, it usually requires you stay at the peak for 3-4 hours. Also, if you want to leave earlier, you have to contact ticketing to seek for the number of tickets which allows you go down earlier. That says, it is difficult that there are sufficient number of tickets for a large group to go down earlier. Therefore, the down-load time for large groups is almost fixed, and you also had a few options when you buy the tickets. Thus, I have to say that Banff Gondola provides great experiences, but it is inefficient on ticketing, especially for large groups.

Spectacular 360 views from atop the mountain overlooking Banff town and glimpse into Banff NP. Truly incredible to see the hands of the glaciers who carved the amazing scenery eons ago. A quick (10 mins or so) ride up gets you access to the museum, observation towers and gift shop etc. We had dinner at the buffet restaurant which was also a good value for the high quality of the food and by far the jaw-dropping views from the table. Highly recommend whilst visiting Banff.

Absolutely breathtaking and the kids loved it. We purchased the tickets online and decided to stop as we were travelling through Banff. Totally worth it. Gondola prices were reasonable and the enclosed gondola meant we felt safe taking the kids (3 and 5 years) up. The facilities at the top of the mountain were well maintained and nicer than anticipated. The boardwalk to the top of the mountain was a great way to spend our time up there with the kids and get some fantastic photos. Would definitely recommend it to family and friends. Would definitely return to Banff Gondola again!

I have never left a review of any business in my life.

Firstly, the gondola ride and views were amazing.

However, my wife and I are very mindful of the rules and policies set forth. I saw countless customers not wearing masks or face coverings on the observation decks, inside and waiting in line. It made my wife and I feel very uncomfortable as we had to dodge the ignorant tourists who think the rules do not apply to them. No one was observing social distance rules either. You would think if they were not wearing a mask they would at least want to social distance. My wife and I decided to leave and cut our visit short as we did not feel safe.

Upon leaving, I spoke to 4 different staff members and expressed my displeasure and uneasiness. Some said they would pass it to management. I dont want to get anyone in trouble, but at least 2 employees said they were instructed not to address the customers were not following the rules, but they are to address people wearing masks and to thank them for following the rules. I am sorry, but I dont want to be thanked for following the rules. I want the people to wear damn masks. I was also informed that it was the by law enforcement officers responsibility to enforce.

This is very disappointing and if you and all people want business to keep operating and for all of us not to get sick, at least make it a requirement to wear a mask and enforce it. It should not be that hard.

Hoping that I did not get sick today.

Hi There bigshow1974, I appreciate you taking the time to review the Banff Gondola. It is disappointing to hear that your time with us did not fully meet your expectations. It is now mandatory for all of our guests to wear masks. We do provide masks to anyone who does not have their own. If a guest is not wearing a mask they are reminded to put it on. Unfortunately even though we do have team members strategically positioned through out both buildings we may have missed some guests. We do hope that our guests also take some responsibility for their safety and safety of others. Alberta Health Services has visited on a number of occasions since we have reopened in June. They have done inspections of the gondola facilities and are very happy with the measures we have put in place. I do understand your concerns though and we will continue to work on improving procedures to ensure the safety and comfort of all our guests. If you would like to discuss your concerns further please reach out anytime, bhumby@banffgondola.com. Thank you Beverly Beverly Humby Assistant Manager, Guest Experience bhumby@banffgondola.com

We've been on the Banff Gondola a few times but this time really exceeded our expectations. We booked a family rate for pre-10am boarding (we booked a 9:50am time slot). This meant our children's admissions were free, saving us over $100! When we arrived, we were allowed to join the boarding line immediately and the kids were given chocolate chip cookies. It took 10 minutes in line to board the gondola. We bought hot drinks from Castle Mountain Coffee when we reached the top and took our time walking all the different walkways and levels. It was a great experience!

From the start the price is quite high, and there were no options for discounts through CAA or the hotel we stayed at which would have been appreciated when purchasing tickets.
When up the gondola there was not a lot of people so we were able to take our time and look around at all the exhibits. The exhibit outside allowed us to play with the lights which was fun, but we walked down the boardwalk and then it got dark but no signs on if there was anything else to see, so we kept walking a bit of a ways but couldn't seen anything so turned around. The exhibits inside about the history were to dark to see and read, and the Nightrise exhibits were not interactive. We spent time walking and listening to the stories on repeat.
We were able to watch a video in the Theatre but there was no listed schedule (even though a sign said it would be on a screen), so we were unsure how long to wait and if we would get any different shows. They had a long add for Soaring over Canada, but they could have done a version for Banff and/or the national parks which could be done well.
The ride down in the Gondola the audio for the narrative story did not work so we had to listen to loud static for the whole ride down.
Overall each area felt disconnected from the other and there was no clear story that you could follow through the various floors and most of the exhibits were not interactive except the lights outside or the noise maker on the roof.
Overall, for the price of $120 for two adult people, I would not recommend. Had a better time at the Vallea Lumina in Whistler last year for about 1/2 the price.

Good Day, Thank you for sending us your feedback of your Banff Gondola experince. We do appreciate all feedback. For the best price for the Banff Gondola we do always recommend booking in advance on our website, as there are discounts available for booking in advance. Unfortunatley with the Nightrise experience we are only able to light the Boardwalk until the end of our lease hold. We do place signage each evening advising that the boardwalk is not lit past this point. I am sorry that you missed this signage. As for the audio in the Gondola I do apolozie for that. To try and make up for your experience, I would like welcome you back. Please reach out directly to me at lrankin@banffgondola.com I look forward to hearing from you

While expensive this is a great way to see gorgeous views as far as the eye can see. There is a walkway at the top up to sulphur mountain cosmic Ray station that is gorgeous. The building at the top has a huge interpretive exhibit to explore and several places to eat. We had a cocktail at the top to enjoy the views and it was perfect! Definitely a must while in Banff on a clear day!!
