The Minnewanka loop is easily found on the first exit ramp to Banff off the transcanada from Canmore and Calgary. Take the right hand turn for the loop drive. About 4 km you will see a sign for Johnson lake. Take this road and you arrive at a parking area with toilets and a picnic area. Great place to have... More

Nice for a little stroll. Make sure you have a parks pass as we didn't get told about it from our hotel when we checked in late at night and ended up getting a warning violation from the parks people.

We hiked Johnson Lake (which is an easy 3 km stroll around this small lake), had lunch along Lake Minnewanka and then hiked the Stewart Canyon & Cascade River/Canyon Trail (7.7km). The GPS was an asset in keeping us on the Canyon trail that seemed to disappear.

This lake is perfectly clear and was warmer than expected. Quite busy, but that is to be expected with the proximity to Calgary. There were quite a few paddle boards and kayaks on the lake, but it did not pose a problem.

There is a trail around Johnson lake, about 3km I think, that we hiked with our 6 and 8 year old. It a great trek with nice views of the lake and up into the trees a bit. The lake has a small sand beach and is a good spot to relax. Lots of fish jumping too. Would recommend for... More

This drive was crowded- but we saw so much wildlife on this loop! Lots of cars stopped and lots of people taking photos but everyone was pretty respectful- not getting too close and keeping quiet.

We enjoyed exploring the lakes, old mining town, and various viewpoints. We saw wild animals from the safety of our car. Loved seeing these amazing creatures as we rolled along surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Did the loop a few times during our week in Banff because it was so enjoyable!

There is not good I love more than discovering a new mountain lake. On my most recent road trip to Banff I decided to find one. Lake Minnewanka and Two Jack Lake kept popping up on instagrama new they looked beautiful. Well insta filters and hashtags did not disappoint. Both lakes are beautiful and worth a stop. I was hoping... More

This is a fantastic short trip with plenty of places to walk and admire the views. Our trip almost did not happen due to the attitude of a "summer" ranger who was very unfriendly, insolent and as the title states an..........! Tanking th latter up with the Government department. That out the way we had a fantastic picnic at the... More

Beautiful loop close to Banff, the three lakes are surrounded by mountains and are great for a walk, paddle or a picnic. WE encountered wildlife all along the loop so be very careful. Amazing photo opportunities I took some beautiful photos of elk nursing their young.
