We’ve wintered here for 30 yrs. Todays Whale Watching photo safari out of Nayarit with Vallarta Adventure beat them all! Excellent guide Pablo and captain Johnathon took us racing across the ocean to watch multiple pods of 6 +males in hot pursuit of the 1 receptive female. Singing, huge spouts, breaches along with fin and tale flips held us spellbound. Only sorry I only had my iPhone 13 as it’s hard to capture detail at the law imposed 60 meters. This was Jan 11, prime mating season

Although it was a cloudy day we enjoyed our 4 hrs at sea. Within am hour we spotted whales. We had one large female completly jump out of the water, we had 2 unexpectedly surfaced directly in front of the boat which were part of a pod of 6, and then we witnessed a female flapping her tail trying to attract a male, and so she did. The trip was 4 hours and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing we didn't expect was a coffee with powdered cream and cookie breakfast, but the sandwiches for lunch made up for it
A must do!

Excellent trip today with Marisol!! Saw so many whales and felt like the captain alway remained a responsible distance and allowed animals to come to us, which was exactly what we wanted! Super knowledgeable team, very friendly and professional! Small tour group size as well which was great!!

We went for the sunset tour with marisel. We had a fantastic time. We were able to see these amazing animals in their beautiful environment. Marisel had great knowledge of the whales and was happy to share. And then watching the sun set over the pacific capped off a wonderful evening. Highly recommend if ur in puerto Vallarta during what’re season. You won’t be disappointed!

I did not go out with Whale Watch Vallarta to see the whales. I had a reservation for a private excursion, but i cancelled it. Why? Because this organization had the amazing INTEGRITY to e-mail me a few days before our arrival that Whale sightings were way down due to El Nino conditions, and perhaps we would not get the value from the trip they normally want to provide. This is a high class, high honesty outfit that far surpasses other tour operators who just want to get our money.
Well done Whale Watch Vallarta. When we return, we will call you first to arrange a new tour. Thank you!

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW... Sorry for all the superlatives but this deserves it. It is without doubt a must see when in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
We arrived at 7:00am departing at 07:30. Our guide was a chap called Benjamin who we found to be both humerus and extremely knowledgable. We seemed to travel along way from shore in our quest to see these fantastic beasts and WOW did we see them. We came across

Wonderful excursion.
I booked this myself directly and I am glad I did.
Really knowledgeable about whales and they genuinely care about conservation. There were only about 7 of us on the boat. Plus the crew.
I was told elsewhere not to bother with a whale tour as we were too late in the season. 17th March ish I am glad I didn't listen as we got to see about six! Plus turtles and wild dolphins and Rays. Plus we got the photos emailed to us too. A wonderful trip, a must do if you are in the area at the right time.

We went out on a whale watching tour even though it was very late in the "prime" time whale watching (best is Mid Dec to late Feb). Our guide was Elisa and she was super. She is a marine biologist and really knows her stuff. We did see whales and dolphins and it was more entertaining with the commentary from Elisa. We all felt safe in the boat piloted by Eddie. Go earlier in the season but would highly recommend whale watch because of Elisa.

We booked with Vallarta Adventures via our travel agent 'TUI' and boy was it worth it!
My wife was a bit concerned about the size of the boat but she did say that she was very pleased she came along - one of natures wonders that you should not miss if you are in the area at the right time. No matter how many times I clicked the camera, never did get a shot of the tail going under!

I cannot promise the whales will be there at that time as we only travel to Vallarta in late Jan/Feb and we always see them then. I would contact the resort where you are staying to ask of they offer whale watching at that time of year. Or contact one the companies mentioned on Trip Advisor who do tours. Hope you get to see them. It is an awesome experience.

We will be visiting in the first two weeks of september, what are the chances of spotting a whale? If not a whale is there any other marine life to see at that time of the year?
MONIQUE A
Winnipeg, Canada143 contributions
The Bay of Banderas is full of fish, turtles and all forms of Marine life. Whales who favour cooler water will not likely be present during September. I would suggest contacting the Marine Biology centre for this region for more specific information. There is scuba and snorkeling available, and shrimp boats work in the more northerly areas, deep sea fishing and tours on the water to islands and a bird sanctuary can also be had. Whales are mostly seen there in Jan-March when they travel south to mate and birth their calves.
Are there any whales may 1? or are they gone

The whales are only in the Bay during the early months of the year to mate and give birth. They leave once the young are strong enough to travel north to cooler waters by late March or early April.

Hola, estoy interesada en tomar tour de avistamiento de ballenas el próximo 28 de diciembre. Estaré hospedada en Punta Mita. Ustedes tienen alguna opción desde ahí y cuál es el costo?

Hi Mark,
This upcoming season we are unable to offer tours in Puerto Vallarta. Our sister company in Cabo San Lucas offers tours from December until April.
The whale watching season in Puerto Vallarta runs from December 8th until March 23rd. During this time there will be a 95% chance you will see whales on a tour.
There are a few other companies in Puerto Vallarta that offer a similar minded tours, small groups and biologist guides.
We'd be happy to take you out on a tour in Cabo San Lucas.
