Classic tourist trap. Locals bet on fleecing the gringos which worked well pre-COVID. Now there are very few tourists, in part because there is zero emphasis on COVID safety, and the economy is hurting. Many closed and desperate seeming businesses. It is a visually interesting place, but even in the middle of the tourist drought you are more likely to see other tourists than a Mexican. Why leave home?

Yelapa is a by boat only beach, take a water taxi from Boca de Tomatlan. Mahauitas is the so called private beach of the Vallarta Adventures tour company. Several boats, including pirate ship anchor there daily.

So here it goes... Mahahuitas is a good place for snorkeling, if you're lucky you can see many fish, turtles, a stingray, sea urhcins... But if you absolutely love walking on the beach, Yelapa is not your place. Basically no waves and great colors but thanks to this, sand is not thin and pretty but rough and stony. The boats will take you to Las Animas for lunch after snorkel... it is quite expensive and not worth it. You can get great food for less in other places. I recommend snorkel, chill for an hour and move on.

We were told that it was a beautiful nice and relaxing beach... and not deep

In reality, it's so small you cannot appreciate the ocean view and the only way to get here is by water ....

so you have to get into a "water taxi" which is a small boat that literally drives you so fast as a Mexican taxi driver but on the water ... they cost from 25-30 us dlls per person the round trip ride

You get into this beach where they have restaurants, chairs, tables and shades right in front of the beach... that is about it!

It's deep for toddlers and young kids... and the water was dirty when we visited.

The nice pic I got it from a catalog from the information center from the hotel and the pic with my girl its what "reality" is

We went to Yelapa & Mahauitas Playa during the end of our stay at Vallarta. Best decision! It's nice and relaxing there, it was a nice way to end our vacation. The water is very clear and clean. We went through Vallarta Adventures. We boarded at Nuevo Vallarta, picked up more people at Puerto Vallarta, then headed to the beach to snorkel and kayak. The Vallarta Adventures crew was very helpful, enthusiastic, and entertaning! After snorkeling/kayaking, we headed to the dock. Those who wanted to hike to the waterfall could do so with the Vallarta Adventures guides or you could head straight to the beach to relax. The restaurant there had great food and a lot of variety. Lots of local salespeople on the beach selling jewelry and souvenirs. It's their livelihood so to me they were not a bother. On the way back to Vallarta, the Vallarta Adventures staff put on quite a show. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to relax, snorkel, and be entertained.

both of these are very natural and a treat to visit...only by boat of course! the water was a bit chilly but its clarity more than made up for it

Dive charter with Vallarta Adventures was supposed to be at Los Anegados but it was too rough and we ended up just off Yelapa Beach. We saw a few rays, a couple of which were buried in the sand with only their eyes showing, and usual reef fish such as sergeant majors, angel fish and snapper. Visibility was 12 to 15 feet and dark, especially at 90 feet. Some cold currents from time to time. Glad I had a 5 mm wetsuit.

We took a tour through Vallarta Adventures and only went to Mahauitas. It's a nice enough beach and we had a nice time, but it's small and was definitely crowded.

What a brilliant trip. Kicking off with a speedboat ride then a short tour of Yelapa before seeing the waterfall. Our tour guide, Alex, was from Yelapa and his local knowledge and enthusiasm made this part of the day really interesting. He even took us to the ‘pie house’- a local lady ego W made fantastic sweet pies.

The horseback ride was also really good and well paced.

The final beach was really relaxed and the food was good.

A great day.

Day trip to the small water taxi only accessible town of Yelapa, then snorkeling, then to Mahauitas Beach. It was a 7-8 hour day, both relaxing and fun. Hats off to JC and the crew of Boat 8 as they made the day extra special.
