This museum is beautifully laid out, with well protected artifacts from an amazing swath of Veracruz history. While the Anthropological museum in Mexico City is truly amazing, this one in many way surpasses that one, mainly by the focus. Its focus is purely on the...More

This museum is spectacular; the collection of artefacts of all the neighbouring ancient civilisations is incredible. So is the architecture of this museum: from the outside it almost looks austere. When you walk inside, it opens up to splendid galleries that offer the best perspective...More

This time, I only visited with my boys now that they are a bit older (7 and 11), they were complaining that I was taking them to a boring place, etc. However, both of them had a good time, especially my 11 year old. Later...More

We were extremely impressed with the university owned anthropology museum which includes pieces only from Veracruz. There are so many quality pieces including 7 original Olmeca heads that weigh over 15 tons each. The history in this area is remarkable and they have done a...More

My wife and I stayed at a friends house about a 10 minute walk from here. There is a very comprehensive amount of info on the olmec and totonac cultures. The way that you keep descending is pretty neat. I loved the architecture and design...More

An absolute must. The have a truly impressive collection, with some of the most important artifacts unearthed in eastern México. The chief attraction would, of course, have to be the Olmec heads, but there are many other stunning pieces as well. The museum is very...More

This museum is a must see. Its collection of Olmec art and artifacts is better and broader than the one at INAH, and it is better laid out. Go! It alone is reason to visit Xalapa.
