Trip Advisor's entries are a bit confusing about Changping Valley and Shuangqiao Valley which are close to each other and offer a similar experience but that are not the same. Today (Oct. 2nd, 2017) the location for Changping Valley is not right (I tried to improve the listing, not sure if it works). Changping Valley's ticket-office and bus-shuttle starting point is on the north-east side of the village. Shuangqiao about 2 km west of the village center, not so easy to get to without a lift. Changping has a temple at the starting point, Shuangqiao a buddhist stele decorated with colorful prayer flags somewhere in the middle. Changping has a bus shuttle to the starting point, from there on it's all walking. Shuangqiao has a shuttle bus running the whole length of the valley and you can hop-on/hop-of at about 6 or 7 bus stops, walking either direction. In Chanping it is all walking. Shangqiao has a length of almost 35 km prepared for the public, Changping a bit more than 15. Changping offers views to Mt. Siguniang (best near it's end) and also on other snow capped peaks with glaciers. I am not sure about the views from Shuangqiao Valley, it was cloudy when we have been there.

About Changping Valley: After getting your tickets take the shuttle bus to the starting point which is about 7 km up the road. There is a beautiful Lama-Temple here and the first horse-station where you could rent a ride. The first 1.5 - 2.0 hrs of hike are on a plank walkway with steps, easy to walk, just little ascends or decends.. After that the hiking gets closer to nature, it was not always easy to keep your shoes dry, recommend to bring walking boots if you want to hike a longer distance. If you walk till the "end", you will walk approx 2 x 4 hrs. with some rests. There is a gate and a nice view-point to Mt. Siguniang here, so easy to know you are there.

The first part of the valley (1.5 hour) you can walk on a wooden boardwalk in the forest. Then there is a muddy trail (1 hour more) which leads to a wider part of the valley where local people keep yaks, this is the end for most tourists. If you are adventurous and well equiped (waterproof shoes required) you can proceed following yak trails till the end of the valley (2 hours), on this part you will not meet anyone and it leads to the most beautifull views.

If you go all the way to the end of the valley it is a two day trip for fit persons. If you stay on the boadwalk it is a trip for anyone (including kids and ladies on city-shoes).

The above mentioned times are without breaks and keeping a good pace.

Some specific directions and suggestions:

Once you purchase your entry ticket, you can take the shuttle bus (included in the entry price) to the trail head (7 km away). I wouldn't walk the 7 km as it is uphill and along a tarmac road; your time would be better spent on the trail.

From the bus dropoff point, you walk past some vendors until you reach a Tibetan temple. Just beyond the temple, you will see 2 divergent paths. The left one is a boardwalk, which most of the Chinese tourists will choose. The right is a dirt trail (called the "horse trail" for reasons below) going down towards the river. For most parts, they run parallel on opposite sides of the river. But the boardwalk only goes part of the way and the rest must be covered on foot or by horse via the "horse trail".

I definitely recommend the right trail, which affords a more authentic and peaceful experience. You will have the trail to yourself mostly, save for some Chinese tourists on horseback led by their local Tibetan guides. Along the way, you will have glorious views of the snow capped mountains while crossing lively streams and traipsing through mossy forests.

The 2 trails will converge and diverge a couple of times. I walked until Muluozi, a beautiful, expansive meadow grazed by languid yaks and flanked by mountains, 14 km one way or 4-5 hours.

You can take the boardwalk (or a horse) on the way back to save time.

Between Changping and Shuangqiao Valleys, I definitely preferred the former. The latter is rather commercial.

Changping Valley is the entrance to the base camp of a Yaome Feng Climb. It is also a very nice day hike from Rilong. Horse riding is available and you can also do the walking from the entrance taking up to 4 hours to reach Muoluozi, a place right by the foot of Yaomei Feng (mt. Siguniang) at its west face. most of the travelers will turn back at Muluozi using the same trail. However if you plan to do a hiking you can continue to Chazigou and walk over the pass to Bipeng Gou to the north. This hiking you need 3 days to do and it is not an easy one.

This valley is easy to hike, as the entrance is right in Rilong town. You buy a ticket, then can ride a bus to the entrance of the valley (save your legs and do this, as the walk there wouldn't be too spectacular).

For the first 2 hours or so, we walked on the boardwalk, then it changes to a more natural hike. All the way, the scenery was beautiful and pleasant. We didn't camp in the valley, but it is possible, and could be quite nice.

It was a good hike for acclimating before climbing up higher on SiGuNiang. Even if you don't plan to go higher, it is worth a visit!

We encountered all types of tourists, so it is accessible at various levels to people of different fitness ability.

I recently visited this valley in May 2019. The entrance fee inclusive of bus is 90 RMB per person. The bus brings you to a Tibetan temple where you can see the 4 peaks of Siguniang if the weather is clear. Usually, the weather is cloudy and you will most likely miss the highest and 4th peak. The wooden plank walkway is under renovation at some parts and you will have to detour on muddy paths. These paths are not clearly marked and so it is best to use a local guide which was recommended to me by the BnB that I stayed. If you aim to go to Muluozi, hire a horse. It is much faster. The valley is still very pristine and the hike gave me the impression of being in the Swiss alps. Avoid Jun-Aug, the rainy season. As the weather is usually cloudy and changeable, plan to have 3 full days in your itinerary and hope that 1 of the 3 days is clear weather. You can find drinks and food along the pathway, contrary to a previous review, sold by the locals. Common drinks are mineral water, Redbull and food includes instant noodles which the locals heat with boiled water. Avoid the first 2 weeks of October as it is peak travel season for the Chinese.

This place is a nice valley with river streams and waterfalls. The wooden walkway is elevated and the park itself is well-maintained , clean. Shops are not available inside. Bring your own food and there is an entrance fee.

It is a popular spot, but not too crowded when I went on a weekend in October. I chose to hike up to the waterfall and was able to avoid all of the crowds. Mountain views are stunning and the air is clear and crisp.

A lot of small staircases and wooden path throughout the valley. The view is very nice and also toilets are available regularly. Bring paper though. An easy walk, so no need for being extra fit to make it.
