We booked a tour of Puerto Penasco with Russ after reading other favorable comments on this site. We met at the appointed hour and place and he drove us around the city, pointing out all the wonderful scenic and geological highlights of the area. We drove through neighborhoods where we might have been reluctant to go, had Russ not been driving. He seems to know just about everyone in town, so everyone we encountered was most welcoming. He helped us make a shrimp purchase along the way, so we felt that we got a good value for our "investment". One of the "extra" activities we added on was a trip to the Super Ley grocery store to buy some fruit and vegetables and fresh tortillas for our stay--Russ knew the better brands of local cheeses to try, and what some of the more unusual ingredients were, which was a really big help. We felt we were old friends by the time we parted company at the end of the day, and would definitely spend another day (or more!) in his company when trying to get a feel for this community that he loves. After reading other reviews, I decided to call Russ and take the tour. He picked us up at the Mayan Palace and introduced us to this beautiful place. We were all very impressed with his vast knowledge of the area since he is not a native of Mexico. We visited the oyster farm and had some for the first time, delicious. We went to see the view from Casa del Capitán Restaurant, and we came back a few days later to see the sunset and have dinner there, amazing view. I highly recommend taking the tour with Russ, some of his passion of Puerto Peñasco will definitely rub off on you.

What great fun to be in the touring van with Russ! Our group of twenty had such a good time and enjoyed Russ and his personal discovery of the area. We could tell he really loves this place, it's beauty, it's past and it's future. The day flew by with unique stops along the way, historical information and humorous stories. What a great way to see this beautiful tourist area and come away with real grasp of what has and will be happening in Puerto Penasco.

Spent an day on a tour with Russ - it was fantastic! Went on a special tour that included the Pinacate Crater, the oyster farms and other sites around town ending with a cold beer at JJ's Cantina! Can't wait to go back and do it again!

We met Russ in January when we hired him to take us around for part of the day. We had been to RP several times and wanted to see different places / things than on our other visits. He was very friendly and professional and we had a great time cruising around town with him. We did some tequila tasting and had some awesome tacos. He showed us some places we hadn't seen (including a castle) and I would recommend touring with him even if you know your way around RP pretty well. It was fun to see some else's thoughts on "what to do in Rocky Point". We are returning this month and have already booked a full day with him to take us and our teenage girls around some of the sites. Thanks Russ, See you soon...

Whenever you plan a trip to Puerto Penasco - be sure to include a tour with Russ! We spent a great day touring the town and all the sights. We brought first time visitors to Penasco on this trip and they all LOVED the tour. Russ' passion for the town and Mexico in general makes his tours extra special. Thanks Russ!

Can't thank Russ enough for this delightful day. My family all 12 of them thoroughly enjoyed all the sights, CEDO, learning about some of the ocean life in the Sea of Cortez, absolutely loved the oysters at the oyster farm. Seeing the beautiful homes out at Las Conchas, seeing Cholla Bay, having tacos, vampiros and the potato at Tacos Brissas... ending the day at Wrecked at the Reef.
Russ is a great tour guide and we will definitely be seeing him on our next trip to Puerto Peñasco!

If you're just here to party then this isn't for you, but if you really want to learn about the rich culture and get a behind the scenes look at what Puerto Peñasco is all about, then I highly recommend you spend a day or a few with Russ Black's Peñasco Recreation Co. He and his lovely wife have lived here for many years and are quite the explorers. He has loads of ideas and knows just about everyone in town. Select your itinerary or give him a few ideas of what you would like to see or do and he will make it happen. From Pinacate to CEDO, from the Tequila Factory to a locally owned and delicious non-touristy restaurant, I can assure that you won't be disappointed!

Our group of 20 RV-ers really enjoyed our tour with Russ. He introduced us to special features of the area. We experienced different tastings. We appreciated his knowledge, his sense of humor, and his commitment to the betterment of his community. We will call him again the next time we visit Puerta Penasco.

How much is the tour, how do you make reservations or can you just show up with yours through out thr day. How long is the tour

Reservation was required. the tour was about 3.5 hours. We found his booking number on Penascorecreation and Russvantours websites. Minimum of 4 per tour. We were four people and I believe we paid 200 dollars.
