Other Mexican cities I've visited of a similar size have had more things cultural and artistic than I've seen so far in Hermosillo. But this museum helps to make up for that. The building is gorgeous inside and out (except that taggers have trashed some of the beautiful outside walls... I wish the museum could budget enough to clean up after the animals!).

When I was there (March 2022), the museum was celebrating its tenth anniversary with an interesting exhibition of Sonoran artists. A number of the works were donated by the artists, which gives me an idea of the respect and admiration this museum (deservedly) gets.

Although only two of the galleries were open, I still spent a couple of hours here -- looking both at the art and the architecture. If you love modern art museums, don't miss this place!

Exhibit was well organized, the museum was almost alone so we could enjoy and spend a many time we wanted on everything that coughed our attention.

I will comeback whenever they have a new setup.

Not even a decade old, Musas is a fairly new museum in Hermosillo. I've been visiting the museum ever since it opened several years ago and even in the beginning I realized it never looked quite finished: unfinished construction, bad paint and plaster jobs, inaccessible areas, etc. That's always struck me as odd, that for all the spectacle and funding that was put into this museum of the state of Sonora, they seem unable to "finish" or upkeep it well. Last time I visited, I noticed some faulty light fixtures. When we were there, we also noticed one of the large glass entrance doors was completely shattered, so that adds to the sense of General disrepair. Anyway, on to the substance: they have had some excellent exhibits for Sonora, I cannot complain about that? And I'm sure glad it exists in a city like Hermosillo. However, another downside is that the staff seem unable to tell you what's coming next. Once I called to find out what exhibits would go up the following month and they said they didn't know, as if there wasn't a calendar. They aren't great at up-keeping the website either. With just a little more attention to detail, this place could be an amazing monument in the state of Sonora.

The staff is friendly, the gallery spaces are wonderful and the artwork is well exhibited. The light levels are low in the graphics sections but this is always the case as museum galleries cannot have incoming daylight as this can damage the work. I was just amazed at the high quality of the exhibits for this period, equal to any exhibition in New York or Chicago. Contemporary art in Mexico is way ahead of that found even in Europe so the show was curated with excellence. I want to return as soon as I am able.

4 galleries, all featuring legitimately world-class Mexican artists. The building itself is a nice piece of architecture and the staff were very friendly. Doesn't hurt that it's free!

This is a gorgeous new museum, but it all seems a little empty. Several gallery spaces weren't even open. I went in because they were advertising a Frida Kahlo exhibit but it was quite disappointing - one single painting in a room with a timeline of her life on the wall. I was the only visitor although there were tons of people outside having professional photos (wedding, grad? etc.) done on the grounds.

The tickets are really cheap and the exhibits are really good. They had a handicraft exhibit that was very nice about Mexican history. Also some modern art and another exhibit about a Mexican serigraphy artist called Posada that was excellent. The building itself is impressive. The only thing missing is a gift shop.

There are some really entertaining and interesting exhibitions to see, but not many, it's really cheap and on Sundays they are free, it can be a nice way to spend a couple hours.
