Stunning, tranquil and scenic! The drive through the Apuane is stunning as well. The cold mountain stream that feeds the lake is reminiscent of the cascades that feed the lakes in Rangeley Maine!! Yes, I'm a New Englander. The two food venues are basic, but with exceptionally cordial service, which contributes to ambiance.

We found this by accident on our way up the mountains. The colours and scenery are magnificent as is the little village (almost deserted). The chimneys and slate roofs make for great photos. Well worth a stop.

About 40 minutes drive from the Versilia coast, the pretty village is a mix of crumbling streets and houses interspersed with renovated buildings used for bed and breakfast as well as an old church. There is also a nice restaurant on a terrace overlooking the lake. The service was a little slow but it has great views - relax. We enjoyed our meal but I would have eaten there just for the view! The lake is surrounded by mountains and is officially the greenest place on earth (I made that up)

Walk down by the lake. We were short of time and did not walk far but I would guess it is nice to trek upstream or seek footpaths up into the mountains. On a hot day it is wonderful to go for a swim. The water is cold but wonderfully clean and you do get a nice view from the middle of the lake too.

The stream is dammed and I do regret, having seen photos online, that we did not walk across the dam - next time.

We had lunch at the resturant. Food was very good but a little on the expensive side. If you are looking for local food, a quiet oasis and dont mind paying for it this is for you.
