We rented snorkeling equipment at the shop in the Omni and had a wonderful experience snorkeling the coral reefs. We had never really done this before, and the tours were long and expensive, so this was a great way to test the waters, so to...More
Both shallow enough to stand in areas and deep enough to snorkel. Barrier reef minimizes the Ocean waves so it is not very rough at the beach. P.A. has installed additional underwater rock barriers to help minimize the beach erosion, keeping the sane on the...More
Beautiful white sand beach, perfect for long walks! The sand texture does vary between grainy and powdery, but you can walk barefoot comfortably along the entire length. Access points are found where the marina meets the ocean and also behind Rick’s Sportfishing.
I love this beach and have been here many times. In April it was not so great, but with this visit in December it was free of any seagrass, had calm stunning turquoise water and has been successfully widened by the Omni which had previously...More
They are slowly restoring the beach from the hurricanes and the jetty that changed the beach shape. The snorkeling right off the beach is great and the reefs are coming back as well. Rays, turtles, fish of all kinds. And very safe since it isn't...More
Fatima Bay has beautiful, clear blue water, gentle waves, and a soothing view. My favorite thing in the world is to lie in a lounge chair with a book and a drink, listening to the surf and calls of the birds. It feels like a...More
We love this beach! The water is clear and calmer than a lot of areas when the seas are rough. It also has an area blocked off for little kids to play in very very calm water. The snorkeling is very good by the reef!
We love this area for its beautiful quiet beach. We are never bothered nor pestered and feel safe in the water and on shore. Glad to see the work is being done to preserve the sand and help to keep things healthy.

yes the beaches are sandy - but it's not a powdery sand. You will need water shoes to access the beach unless you go in by the breakwalls near the Omni hotel. I wouldn't recommend entering anywhere else as the bottom is... More
yes the beaches are sandy - but it's not a powdery sand. You will need water shoes to access the beach unless you go in by the breakwalls near the Omni hotel. I wouldn't recommend entering anywhere else as the bottom is somewhat rocky - and shallow, and you really are treading on living coral!
Snorkeling Fatima Bay - anyone go there recently? (1 Replies)
I have been reading about the serious loss of beach in Fatima Bay. When my husband and I were there two years ago we really enjoyed snorkeling in the bay. We saw sea turtles, rays and tons of fish in addition to the interesting coral. Has anyone snorkeled there recently? Have the storms that hurt the beach damaged the coral? We are headed back down to Puerto Aventuras next month and are hoping that all is well with the marine life there. Thanks!

We stayed at Villa Del Mar for 10 days over Easter. Our 3rd stay there. The snorkeling was about equal to earlier vacations there. Plenty to see. Like you, we saw turtles and rays along with other fish. You just have to find the spots.
