In the heart of Ireland, just over 1 hour from Dublin lies the town of Kilbeggan, home to the world's oldest distillery, established in 1757. It is the quintessential Irish whiskey distillery - whitewashed walls, weathered slate roof, brick chimney stack, creaking timber water wheel, even regular ghost sightings. This is no mere "visitor centre" but a real working distillery run by a team of young enthusiastic craftspeople (and a few wise old heads too), skilled in the traditional ways of making Irish whiskey. Open 7 days (except during Christmas and New Year). On-site Restaurant. Whiskey Bar. Gift Shop. Free parking.

The Kilbeggan Distillery is one of the oldest in the world. The quantity produced there is very little as the machines aren't new but it is a treat to look at how whiskey was produced in ancient times. It is advisable to take a guided tour which lasts for an hour. At the end of the tour, they do make... More

What a special day trip... We stayed in Tullamore with the main intention of visiting Kilbeggan. During our two weeks in Ireland we enjoyed every whiskey we tasted from Kilbeggan which made visiting the distillery an obvious last stop on the way back to Dublin... We thoroughly enjoyed sampling a variety of the whiskeys on offer and chatting to the... More

This is a well kept old whiskey distillery. Wonderful guide page given to follow the path and check out the equipment. Well worth a visit to see how things were done back in the past. Fabulous water wheel still moving. Great taste at the end and a special whiskey souvenir glass.

We had arranged for a VIP tour of the facility. It was well worth it. the guide was very informative and we saw not only the tools and machinery of long ago but also the new boutique distillery it has become. We also were able to taste some very fine samples.

We did the self guided tour and we were delighted that some of the original items were retained rather than replicas on other tours. Only disappointment was the person doing the tasting was from France which spoilt the experience somewhat. Nothing against the person but you would expect an Irish person explaining the whiskey notes.

The Kilbeggan Distillery tour takes you through the old Locke Distillery where Kilbeggan's whiskey was made. The old wood floors and water wheel powered gears were fascinating to look at. My wife and I spent almost an hour on the rooftop overlooking the mill chase and three pot stills enjoying the sun and birds. It was very relaxing. After the... More

Visited there today 26/08/16 with my boyfriend Mark. What an amazing experience, with me being an non drinker I was reluctant but how wrong was I. Our tour guide Karen provided us with such an insight to the past and present of the distillery, Mark enjoyed four tasters at the end whilst I the driver was given two complimentary mini... More

Kilbeggan whiskies are still being distilled in the Cooley distillery in County Louth, however they are now making small whiskey batches again in Kilbeggan town and the distillery tour lets you see all of the process. I chose the Gold tour which was guided by Pascale and included four whiskies at the end of the tour, not to mention a... More

Stopped here on my cycling journey down through the country, and was pleasantly surprised. I was kindly allowed to put my bike safely in the entrance area while doing the tour, which is great value especially as it includes a wee gift sample after(got mine to take away). Really enjoyed the visit and will stop again with my family.

My husband graciously let me pick Ireland for our vacation. He only requested one thing, to see a few whiskey distilleries. This has a great tour, and the hubby had a blast tasting at the end of the tour. Pascal, our tour guide was so nice and helpful. The gold tour is worth the personalized info and included tasting.
