It was 40 years ago...or there abouts

We very briefly stopped at "The Boat Shop at Braunston bottom lock. Like stepping back in the past...in a nice way. About 40 years ago I did the same...milk, bread and "The Canal Book" (pre Pearson's/ Nicholson's map / guide book) and "The Journey of the Swan". Read cover to cover on the holiday. This together with the Rolt's Narowboat were the books that turned me on to canals.
Wonderful little shop if your on a passing boat(or just walking).all you need for provisions and as much to read as you could want.
I would love to have had a while longer and browse the new and pre owned canal library on offer... maybe next time!

Lovely wee canal side shop with canal themed gifts etc. And essentials for those on the canal. Great to see shops like this still in existence.

Visited while on holiday

Lovely little shop, sells everything from Canal Wares, paintings, maps, post cards (which they will post for you) and milk, drinks, bread and biscuits and more. Bought a Milk Churn painted with a canal boat style, very good value for money, every time we go on holiday we always visit this shop. A must for visiting.

Great for walkers, but mainly aimed for Canal folk

As walking along the canal we stopped for an ice cream (great value and good choice).

This shop sells paintings, maps, stamps, postcards, chocolates etc.

Full of charm and everything you need if you on the Canal.

Not the biggest shop and seemingly run by a couple who have done it for years!

To buy or not to buy?
Sep 2017 • Solo
Selling lots of painted canal related things, like buckets, churns, painted teapots and the like. Lots of canal related pictures, if you are allowed to look that is. Plus a few very overpriced groceries. (canal folk take the extra 10 minute walk into the village.) Customer service could be improved 100% though, as you may think its a browsing shop but you are made to feel a nuisance and need to hurry up. I recommend only for the novelty. And the triumph of managing to buy something against all the odds.
Good luck.
