I wish we would have taken this tour during our first few days - we only had time to go back to our favorite (twice!), but would have gone back to some of the others, too. Sofia was a wonderful guide who was very upbeat and energetic and you couldn't help laughing along with her. She also imparted a wealth of interesting facts and myths about the history and culture of the city. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Book now....

In spite of the heavy rainfall, we enjoyed a delightful, fun afternoon with Alex. He shared a few items in the Mercado then we sampled foods in a few local restaurants we never would have discovered on our own. We have even been back to one of them! Great tour!!

Hi Margie! Thank you very much for your review, we are very glad you enjoyed the tour and that the rain didn't affect you having some fun and delicious time :) Glad you came back to one of them later!

I went on the most amazing food tour arranged by Puerto Food Tours. I didnt expect so much. We had an absolutely delighfull couple of hours absorbing the food stalls, restaurants and local cuisine. He found places that offered food carefuly made and beatifully presented. I could take a similar tour with Alex Campos again and again.

Wow, we had such a great time!
Sofia, our tour guide was super nice! She walked us around Puerto Escondido telling stories about Puerto history and food. we ended up talking about many other things, because she was so warm and charismatic!
little details were the key for the success of this tour!
we tried many different things and ate as locals, service everywhere was incredible! we received love through oaxacan food and felt our hearts jumping with joy. Sofia shared with us the pride and love for Oaxacan gastronomy! Don't miss this fun tour!

I have been on many food tours, but Made in Oaxaca was hands down the best I have been to.

The food was phenomenal!! We went to places that I would have never thought to go to. Our guide had each stop planned and in some places we ate things that weren't on the menu! The food was so good, we re-visited many of the places she took us during our stay.

Beyond the food, our guide was Amazing. She explained each dish, what was in it and a little bit of the history/culture surrounding it. She also taught us about the history of Puerto Escondido. I learned so much!!!

Our guide was very well organized. She had planned out in each place what we were going to eat and had little envelopes of payment already prepared so we never had to deal with that awkwardness. We also got caught in a very heavy rainstorm. Another guide showed up with a car to make sure we were able to finish the tour.

If your in Puerto Escondido and you like food you must do this tour!!

Thank you very much for your feedback :) It's awesome that you could re-visit the places from the tour, and we are very happy that you enjoyed the historical-cultural part of the tour! We are always happy to see you back, and join us on the other PFT routes. Have a great summer!

When I was trying to decide whether to book this tour, I was a bit nervous that all of the reviewers only had one or two reviews, and I wondered if they were “planted”. But we decided to try it anyway (Mexico Mágico tour) and we’re so glad we did! We were two couples (40 somethings and 50 somethings) who LOVE good food. My husband and I are regular visitors to the area, and our friends were first timers.

Sofia was an amazing guide and is absolutely passionate about Puerto Escondido. Many of the places we visited were places we likely would not have discovered on our own, and in every establishment we were made to feel like valued guests. Most hosts even went so far as to place a fan near our table to ensure we were comfortable in the glorious Puerto heat- a nice touch! We enjoyed a sample of Puerto “fast food” (two amazing enchiladas), tasajo with the yummiest bean sauce and the “cheese lady” - OMG! One of my (very few) issues in PE is that it is difficult to find really good cheese - that problem is now solved! And for those with a sweet tooth, don’t despair! Handmade mole or mezcal chocolates anyone? Or an Instagram-worthy dessert that was to die for? You don’t have to choose, because we had both!

The tour is a great sample of what Puerto Escondido is all about and I highly recommend it. My only complaint is that there is simply too much food! The establishments are so proud of what they can offer that they each provide a very generous serving, and if you eat it all (and you will, because it’s so good!) you are STUFFED by the third stop! If the portion size could be scaled down without taking any of them away, this tour would be perfect!

Hats off to the entire Puerto Food Tours team! I think this will take off and become a huge success, and it’s something that was missing from the town we’ve grown to love. And yes...I’m a first time reviewer too! I’ve never been moved to write a review before now, but I really want everyone to know what a great afternoon it was.

Hi Kris! Wow...you literally made our team cry :) Thank you so so so much for all the kind words, we are so glad you enjoyed the tour and even more glad you have your "cheese issue" solved now :) And thank you so much for noting the portion size moment, we are already working on it to make the next tours perfect! Have a great week, and warmest greetings from Sofia! PFT Team

The host was lovely! Mostly leaving a 3 stars because I think it's extremely overpriced. I think this tour should be $40.

Iyari was such a pleasure to have as our tour guide. She made the experience so amazing and enjoyable. My husband and I had a super time exploring Puetro Escondido’s food culture and neighborhoods with her as our leader. All the food was tasty and delicious. I appreciated how many of the eateries visited focused on women, indigenous, and Oaxaqueños culture and traditions. Cocofam was our favorite!
