About
Coco Hill Forest is a 53-acre regenerative agroforestry project located on Richmond Road, St. Joseph, featuring 3.5km of hiking trails in a lush primary rainforest overlooking the east coast of Barbados, a coconut nursery, and among over 70 species of tropical fruit trees, herbs, and spices. Our mission is to contribute to food security by building back and protecting the biodiversity that was lost to sugarcane monoculture. We are open everyday, including holidays, from 9am to 5pm, to walk-ins for self-guided hikes. Entrance fee is 25BBD/adult and 15BBD for children under 12. Children under 3 come in for free. Hiking shoes are recommended, and picnics are welcome. Guided tours are offered on appointment. During this 2hr tour, our guides will take you on our best trails while telling you about our project and the natural history of Barbados. We also host volunteering activities on Saturdays, private events, and camping. Contact us for more info and follow us for updates!

We were lucky enough to hike this area and even luckier to meet and talk to the owner (Mood Patel). He is trying to bring back some of the islands agriculture, while supporting his 'forest to table' hotel and restaurant (Ocean Spray) We got a history of the island and the agricultural challenges of the island. The bamboo and palm trees in this forest were truly amazing...so tall. Don't miss the platform views!

Yesterday we drove up to Coco Hill Forest and had a wonderful walk in the woods with our guide, Romanus. We learned a lot about the trees, fruit, vegetables, herbs, and history - and what they are doing to improve the land use in that area. The owners have a farm-to-table cafe in Inch Marlow which I hope we can get to during our stay. Wear sturdy footwear, path can get slippery when wet.

A marvellous forest walk that takes you there where the island was before it was changed into a sugar cane plantation.
The owner is very aware of bringing back bio diversity to Barbados. Take the chance of a conversation with him. He's an interesting person with a good spirit.

While it was pouring rain, we enjoyed about half of the forest, it felt very much like a rainforest and is quite beautiful. Trails are well marked, a laminated map and walking stick are provided with helpful info from knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff at the base. Recommend good hiking shoes as it can be slippery if the ground is wet. We will return another day when the weather is more cooperative to cover the entire forest.

Most people have never heard of this place, so it is not crowded. Our driver said we were the first people he'd ever had ask to go there. Peaceful is the word that comes to mind to describe this site. If you are looking for a quiet, tranquil spot to enjoy nature, this is it. They have 3 trails. We hiked two of the three in an hour. Would have liked to have seen it all, but our driver was anxious to get back and we were tired as this was our last stop of the day. You will need to be in reasonable physical condition to make the trek. There are lots of steps and steep inclines. They provide you with a map, but it doesn't seem to be quite to scale. We found it a little confusing which way to go at times. It would be nice if they could put up some more arrows and labels on the trees. It appears to be a work in progress. We love scenic and natural areas, so we are glad that they are preserving this site. They should advertise more so they can get more visitors. Only would have been better if they served alcoholic drinks or sodas and food, so you could relax and enjoy following your hike as they have a nice picnic area at the entry.
They stay open until 5 PM, unlike most other attractions which close at 4 PM.

A nature reserve. Staff are friendly. You pay $20 USD each and get a map to cover two different paths. One route is forest heavy and the other has views of the coast. A beautiful setting and great escape. Not a challenging hike - but I would recommend sensible footwear.

Absolutely amazing experience. Mohammed was so hospitable, knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about the rainforest. The forests in beautiful condition with scenic spots throughout and gorgeous view points (if you want to to pictures) This is one of the only original precolonial Rainforests in Barbados, and is in amazing condition with thousands of animal and plant species.
I definitely recommend

Wonderful experience - loved the chance to get into some tropical forest bathing!
Stunningly restful & great in the heat of the day - being in the cool shelter of the trees and the trade winds from the East....
Would recommend for anyone who enjoys trees & appreciates a natural setting. Paths not suitable for those unsteady on thier feet!

Unassuming at first but a real hidden gem in Barbados. Very reasonably priced for the stunning views.
We were greeted upon arrival by the lovely owner Mahmud. His ethos and passion for introducing sustainable biodiversity back to the island was inspiring. He was very friendly and welcoming. We learnt lots about the island's history from chatting with him.
There were 3 different looped routes which were connected and took us through different mini ecosystems, each with a variety of different trees/ plants. The terrain and difficulty level varied but overall felt accessible to most keen walkers.
We had an amazing time and would recommend as a must visit for all who enjoy walking in nature.

We saw the whole hill with our guide Romanus. It's the second highest point on Barbados with great views to the East Coast. there were plenty of trees, fruit, herbs to taste and a few birds. Look out for cats following you!! Romanus had plenty of stories about the forest, attempts to plant different crops, and the troubles with raiding monkeys.

Hi
You have to go to Bridgetown and take the SHOREY Village bus which will take you directly in front of the entrance road to the forest.

Please how do we get from Bridgetown to Coco Hill Forest in April 2022? I guess its by the Sugar Hill bus, but where do we get off? Thanks. Chris B.
Written April 2, 2022
there are the 3W ZR vans from the Bridgetown Van Stand or the Blue buses - Sugar Hill. cost is BBS $3.50 per trip. the 3W is the small white vans and is more popular.
