I did some nice fine hikes through the Hartelsgraben and then later a short walk though the Johnsbachsteg. I did walk along the Enns gorge as well, but unfortunately unlike I had hoped for there was in fact not really a full trail going close alongside the road, thus only walking on gras was possible for most of the places.
Only between some bus stops and the Johnsbach train station nice trails had been present in fact.
The nature is very pretty, biking on the road is alright too since it was not too busy begin of October, but maybe small paths without much intervention along or close to the road would have been alright.

The park is accessible by train, bus, and car. Here, the river Enns has found a way through the alps, creating a nice set of rapids that are popular with rafters and kayakers. Several companies offer rafting tours here and on the nearby Salza. The national park contains nice exhibits for school children, including an ecological footprint maze and exhibits on riverside and mountain ecosystems. There is a nice walking path along the river that takes ca 90 min each direction at a comfortable speed. A restaurant, a cafe, a camping ground and a lodge round off the infrastructure. There are hiking trails, some with over 1600m elevation gain, rock climbing opportunities, and a mountain bike trail. We enjoyed ourselves and plan to come back.

If you want to enjoy some really beautiful hiking and landscapes, then look into this area of Austria. You will not be disappointed but rather enchanted and invigorated. Try staying in Admont to base yourself there for hiking and good food and enjoy the Freibad or outdoor pool surrounded by the wonderful Austrian peaks.

Combining the small villages of Weng, Johnsbach St. Gallen and Admont the national park Gesaeuse is one of the world's youngest national parks. Here you find hundreds of short and long mountain trails reaching cabins to eat drink and overnight as well as many very scenic peaks

I was here in May and climbed to Hochtor. There was still snow everywhere which made the paths basically disappear. It took us about 7hrs to get to the top, but once we were there.... .It so incredibly beautiful, the nature, the mountains, the peace. We didn't come a cross one other hiker. I love the area and would definitely like to return some day!

We visited the Nationalpark Gesaeuse after leaving the Admont monastery. It was a nice area. We got there by car and it was very deserted.
It was very picturesque!

After visit of Admont monastery you have a few kilometres to this park. Wild, picturesque, high mountains, narrow valleys,river,jungle...everybody will find his way. It depends on time and the physical condition whether you will just walk around the river or climb on the mountains. Johnsbach or parking close to rafting centre...here you can start

Very pretty. Weather was perfect. Surrounded by mountains and mountain streams. Had to stop driving periodically to take it all in.

Words can't describe. Nature&culture intertwined, a piece of wilder landscape in the heart of Europe. Please, respect nature, we need it for our nurture :) Hike with love and peace.
