We played this nine hole course twice in the afternoon and had a good time. The grass and greens were in good shape and staff was friendly. It was a bit overpriced but the free drinks and food were a nice perk and it was a refreshing to play at a legitimate course where they did not expect us to sit through a time share presentation (this happened in the morning at Los Diamantes which I would strongly recommend you avoid).

We golfed twice at the Mayan Palace during Christmas 2007. The Mayan group took over the course a couple of years ago and it's still very much in transformation. We picked this course because it was the cheapest - $99 per person (which included a cart, bottled water & tees). I love to golf but I'm still learning and not very good yet. I found it challenging but still alot of fun and enjoyed myself.
Clearly, it's not as nice as Palmilla or the other larger & more difficult courses but I didn't want to pay $200-$300 per round to struggle and lose all of my golf balls.
It's a 9 hole course that you play twice for a full round. If you are a champion golfer with a good handicap then you probably want to skip this one. If you are an average golfer or a beginner like me, then this is a good place to start.
The one major draw back is the course uses reclaimed water or grey water to water the course. It's pretty gross and you definitely don't want to be near it when the sprinklers are on.

Fun course, good service. Food and drinks are included. The course is forgiving. It has a little water and the sides of the fairways are homes and condos. It wasn’t too busy.

These people are part of some scary cult for selling. They took us away in a white van because my husband threatened legal action for breach of contract. Stay away from here.

We have been to other gimmicky courses in the area, like Palmilla and Campestre, but Punta Sur is the one we keep going back to. Palmilla and Campestre have beautiful views, but we find target golf very frustrating - and we are both very decent golfers. What's wrong with having a wide open fairway occasionally?! Punta Sur, (not sure why it is listed as Mayan Palace, because there is only a Grand Mayan in San Jose and their golf course is either called Punta Sur or Vidanta according to their logos and literature) has great service and the course is well kept. The greens were a little sandy and slow on some holes, but once we got used to that, we putted much better on our second round. The course wasn't super easy, but if we hit a bad shot, we usually at least had an opportunity to try and save par. At Palmilla, I hit so many unplayables, that I left feeling like I should quit playing golf! Also, the price for golfing was very reasonable at Punta Sur if your resort has a special price with them and the beers and bloody marys were about a fourth of the price as other golf courses. We left thinking we would continue playing golf afterall.

Beautiful spot but the pools are freezing and not enjoyable.
Even the hot tubs are cold. The pools are empty because no one is swimming. Drinks are very expensive.Staff acts like they are doing you a favor. They need a good manager that can get something done.

We attended a time-share presentation at the Mayan Palace and were totally unimpressed. Although we are not golfers, we would not want to stay there if we were. As one enters this very glitzy "palace," there are Mayan drumbeats playing. The industrial-looking "place" is built in a large horseshoe. Cheaply constructed, it lacks charm. Rooms are narrow, kitchenettes have just a tabletop counter and a college room refrigerator. The centerpiece of each room is a bathtub. Floor tiles look like those found in a bus station. Balconies overlook an enormous pool, where music blares and activities are announced. Bathrooms around the resort are very pedestrian, as is the snack bar by the pool. Vendors are poised on the beach, ready to pounce on those who wander from the pool area. Located right on the road, there is no protection from motor vehicle exhaust, which is not regulated as it is in the U.S. The room where time-share guests pick up their "prizes" is shabby, unkempt and not a good advertisement for the resort's construction. Needless to say, we left as quickly as we could.
On the positive side, the landscaping is gorgeous, golf is available, breakfasts are superb, and the "palace" is walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Do not take the speal it is a joke. They don't know how to say no. Say it's only 90 minutes. Say you will get incentives. Then after 3 hours you say no they aren't happy and start arguing with you. By the time I walked out I was ready to punch the person and I wasn't the only one so we're the other couple that walked in with us. Do not agree to take this. I have taken them before and never had the amount of trouble as I did with these guys.

Does anyone know how much a round of golf costs per person? There is 15 of us as well so do they accept big groups?

Hi to the staff of the Mayan Palace Golf Club - I would like to play round of golf- 1 person. I need to rent clubs. Is there a time during the day when it is not too busy? I would also like the least expensive time. I can be there anytime of the day. Thank you. Tom.
