Arrived at this beach for surf classes. Lots of surfers due to sea conditions. Also there is a surf school that also rents surf boards. A couple of restaurants were you can buy food and beverages. Sea is steep and has rocks and sea urchins and strong sea currents...great for surfers but not if you want to just spend a day bathing.

We were lucky to hit this beach on a hazy day in May, even though we used plenty of sun screen I would be concerned about hot days. We used the southern entrance which is less busier and parked under the shade under a bridge. There is a supermarket next to bridge that sells beers- it turned out to be There was no umbrella to rent, we were also told that this place is not a good place for snorkeling and is more of a surf place. You can walk miles on the blue stretch of the beach and forget how time goes by. If you are planning to snorkel, rent the gears from Costa Azul surf shop and drive to Palmilla beach that is calmer and you have better visibility.

We have been traveling to Cabo for over 25 years. And the locals at Costa Azul or Zippers have really gotten out of hand.
Not recommended if you do not speak spainish. They are like a pack of wolves.

The best beach in San Jose. Still not crowded with hordes of tourists this is a nice beach to visit. Great for a walk along the waters edge it is long, white and gleams in the Baja sun.

To my understanding, there are four spots you can surf at in "Costa Azul". Zippers, Pescaditos, The Rock, and Acapulquito.

The spot is easy to find. Coming from the Airport, you will come up to an off-ramp that goes into a dried riverbed. You can take it and park by the beach (WATCH FOR BROKEN GLASS!)
If you see the "Zippers" sign on the left side of the road, you've passed it, there will be an opening on the divider wall where you can make a u-turn and take the off-ramp right by the sign.
Coming from San Lucas, all you do is look for the sign and take the off-ramp.
When you park, right in front of you and to the left a little, is Zippers, Pescaditos is to the right, in front of the restaurant called Zippers.
The Rock (La Roca) is further out than pescaditos by the obvious rock.
And Acapulquito is further north up the beach.

I only surfed Pescaditos and the waves were better than what I'm used to. Tho, the days I surfed, it was rather inconsistent.
Apparently, Zippers likes low tides, Pescaditos just a bit higher, the rock high tides and Acapulquito, I have no idea.
The vibe was friendly for the most part at Acapulquito with just a few bad vibers. Most of the surfers at Pescaditos when I was there were adept/intermediate/beginners. Very few were really really good.
We topped at about 12 surfers at one point when the lessons were in session in Pescaditos alone. We averaged 5 surfers and at one point I was there by myself!
The Rock had an average of 18 surfers when I was there.
Most of the really good surfers were at the Rock when I was there.
They say the restaurant offers rental boards but I rented from the Costa Azul store on the other side of the road. (you can cross under the road)
The boards are in excellent shape, good selection and at good prices.
The staff at the store was super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended you pay them a visit.
Also, pay a visit to the restaurant just to the left of the store (while facing the store)
Their ceviche is off the hook!

A great beach to visit during your stay in either Cabo San Lucas or San Jose del Cabo. Not all the beaches in Los Cabos are swimmable, but Costa Azul is a great area for surfing and relaxing. Some good food in the area as well will have me coming back to this section during future trips. Well worth the visit. If you don't want to park on the dirt/beach area with your rental car, check out the small lot at Zippers Bar and Grill. Enjoy

Very quiet beach except for some surfers. Sand gets very hot during the day so is not great for swimming or sunbathing.

The main problem with the beaches in San Jose del Cabo is they are too dangerous to swim in due to undertow problems in the area. The beach where we stayed, at the WorldMark was gorgeous, but we simply had to just sit there and look at it, since signs were posted about the dangers there.

Costa Azul has the famous Zippers Beach, but don't bother surfing there as it is reserved for locals. No violence will come your way, but neither will any free waves. Pescado for beginners and The Rock for more confident surfers are a short walk from the car park. The beach isn't that well kept, so be careful to avoid the beer bottles and odd pile dog mess. The water is warm and the surf is inviting. There will be plenty of other surfers there so take care to wait your turn in the line up and abandon a wave it is already taken.

Good place to surf but also swim or just hang on the beach. There are nicer beaches but this is the place to surf. If you want to surf be sure to book in advance. There are also neat rock formations that have crabs all over them. No facilities or food.
