This was a nice spot to hang out and do a little shopping. The shops are more touristy and expensive. Some shops you can haggle and bargain with, but the prices are still high.

On a nice weather day, you can get ice cream or some fruits and this would be a great place to walk around and explore. They also have restaurants you can visit and other cute boutique shops.

We loved this area of San Jose Del Cabo! Lots of Art Galleries and cute little places to eat or get a drink. There was a show going on in celebration of international women's day which was fun to watch. We enjoyed the plaza and the area around it very much.

So, this is not the most beautiful plaza but it has atmosphere, especially at night. Central point of the town. A main meeting location. There are some tourist things worth seeing around the square, plus some shops, chemists and a few places to grab a bite to eat or a coffee. Not very clean. Loads of birds around too. Good place to get your orientation! If your getting an uber, their most likely to pick you up or drop you here. At night (not sure if this is every evening) but when we were there they had food stalls and entertainment. There was a festival on. Walk away from the square and there are beautiful art galleries, boutique shops and hip restaurants. The area is generally safe but stay on the main roads as the quieter roads can be dark and isolated.

Really fun to hang out on the plaza and people with. Seems there is usally always somethng going on. Artist, food stands, local families. With the church at the side of the plaza it gives it such a welcoming presense.

After 16 years of my wife asking me to leave Cabo San Lucas and go to San Jose del Cabo to visit, I finally agreed. Of course, this time we were staying at the Hilton which is about half way between Cabo and San Jose. I must say that I regretted not going sooner. It has a laid back more cultural feel to it than Cabo's hustle and bustle. Sort of like the old Cabo when we started going there in 2002. The town square in the center of town with the beautiful church and art galleries/studios on its perimeter is very nice. Granted, given that the town is growing with all the hotels being built and tourists by the thousands increasing, there is a little issue with roads and sidewalks being under construction to try to cope with the increased traffic. Still, local restaurants and attractions are very walkable. I saw another TripAdvisor post about crime and violence there. Please, if you are going to hype up things, stay in the US. I know I am putting my life more at risk in many US cities than I am in Cabo or San Jose del Cabo.

We always walk from the Coral Baja Resort into Plaza Mijares in the heart of San Jose del Cabo. Take the Hoteleria divided boulevard from the main highway to Mijares road and walk straight into town arriving at Plaza Mijares. It's 2.5 miles one way. Go in late morning when it's cooler. Spend a few quiet moments in the church. Buy ice cream on the square, and watch people, local and tourists, come and go. Many restaurants to choose from. Cruise the art shops on the side streets that go off the plaza. Take the local rickety bus back to La Comer grocery store for 13 pesos. A fun few hours.

The plaza is a must do. The development of the area has exploded in the last couple of years, there are dozens of new shops and restaurants. The Thursday night art walk is definitely something to do but get there early parking is a nightmare. There were tons of vendors with handmade items along with the art and it was right before Christmas so there were a lot of interesting giftable items. The shops around the plaza are pricey so if you are in the need for souvenirs I would suggest Thursdays art walk or the market on Saturdays. On the other end, if you are looking for boutique high quality items linens, clothing, pottery, the plaza shops are most readable and convenient.

There were many new restaurants around the plaza, one in particular we wanted to try was having its soft opening and we just happened upon it. It was out last night and we had already eaten dinner. We will watch the reviews and likely visit in the summer. It has become quite touristy in old San Jose which is disappointing but it was bound to happen. As long as it doesn't look like Cabo San Lucas I can deal.

In the rear of the plaza by the amphitheater several street food vendors set up and have for years...this time there was a crepe cart. They were made to order and there was a queue ...the owner, who was taking the money was a jerk...he was talking mess about Americans not realizing I am fluent. The guy making the crepes saw me listening and warned him, in spanish that I was listening and undersrood him...he played it off. Had I not really wanted the crepe and honestly thought the situation was amusing I would have told him to keep the crepe. I did remind him in Spanish, when my crepe was ready, that many Americans not only understand but speak Spanish. Just because I ordered in English did not mean I couldn't speak Spanish. He still had an attitude. But anyway...the crepe was fantastic. We have eaten at most of the food vendors in tents and carts at the back of the plaza. They are, in general, less tourist friendly. This is of zero concern to me... If I want fresh churros I am getting them (which are amazing). But something to keep in mind if you are intimidated with surly attitudes and people who will not try and make it easy for you if you don't speak or understand Spanish. It's almost like they don't want you back there... Like it's a locals only area and the gringos are crashing... Like I said, I am getting my Mexican street food if I want it however, the crepe guy might not see me again.

I digress...

A must do... Lots of changes over the last several years but still a great area to visit and not as much of a tourist trap as CSL.

We were able to walk from the Royal Solaris where we stayed which took about 20 minutes. This very old town is extremely quiet especially in comparison to Cabo San Lucas. Lots of little shops, clean with a few nice cafes to stop to get a Margarita and listen to Mariachis like the Dvur. A must see if you are staying in San Jose.

We stopped by this Plaza as a result of coming here with our tour guide who gave us some historical information about how the Plaza's were used by the local community in the courting relationship of the teens and the accompanying family members. Our tour guide explained how the teens would walk in a circle around the gazebo. How a rose was passed and how the acceptance or denial of that flower was an acceptance or denial of the courting teen. we ventured around the plaza to view some of the other shops and then Departed the area happy that we were able to at least see and walk around this common area and hear its historical references.
